The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has placed the Canary Islands under a weather alert this Friday, warning of a mix of severe maritime conditions, heat, strong winds, and the presence of calima (haze). The forecast includes temperatures soaring up to 34ºC in Gran Canaria, with wind gusts reaching up to 70 km/h in La Palma.
Heat Alert

Temperatures in the Canary Islands will peak at 34ºC in the midlands of southern Gran Canaria, 32ºC in Tenerife, and around 30ºC on the other islands. The calima, carrying Saharan dust, will further impact visibility at high altitudes, contributing to the hot and hazy conditions.
Wind Alert
A wind warning has been activated for the summits and western parts of La Palma, where gusts are expected to reach up to 70 km/h. The east wind will primarily affect El Paso, the midlands of the western regions, and the southeast and northwest slopes of the island.
Maritime Storm Warning

Maritime conditions are also a concern, particularly for the east, south, and west coasts of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Winds will blow from the northeast at 50 to 61 km/h (force 7), mainly affecting the southeast coast of Tenerife and the west and southeast of Gran Canaria. On El Hierro, similar wind intensities are forecast along the northern and northwestern coasts, especially in offshore areas.
At sea, east and northeast winds of force 4 to 6 are expected, increasing to force 7 offshore in the northwest and southeast. This will cause strong swells and rough seas, with waves reaching between 1 and 2 metres.
High Temperatures

Gran Canaria is under a heat alert, with temperatures expected to hit 34ºC, particularly on the southern and western slopes of the island. The combination of heat, wind, and calima creates challenging conditions across the islands, making this a day of heightened weather awareness for residents and visitors alike.
