On Friday, 18 October, at 8:30 p.m., Santa Cruz de Tenerife will kick off its Carnival 2025 festivities with a grand event in Plaza de España. This year’s celebration theme, Secrets of Africa, will be highlighted by a unique African-inspired atmosphere featuring the poster’s designer, Nigerian artist REWA, along with a lineup of local performers to keep the evening lively.
The Santa Cruz Town Hall, through the Autonomous Body for Festivities and Recreational Activities (OAFAR), has organized the event. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez expressed excitement for the return of this concept, which was a hit during the Carnival 2024 celebrations. He noted that the event would replicate last year’s success, combining a vibrant African theme with the unveiling of the new poster to attract carnival-goers eager to begin the festivities early.

Councillor for Fiestas, Javier Caraballero, elaborated on the evening’s schedule, emphasizing that the event will serve as a symbolic start to Carnival 2025 and will run for about three and a half hours. Alongside the official poster presentation, local artists will perform, providing entertainment until midnight and creating a festive ambiance for all attendees. This open-air gathering is not only a showcase for REWA’s artwork but also a chance for residents and visitors to immerse themselves in Carnival spirit months ahead of the official festivities.
Caraballero emphasized the inclusivity of the event, encouraging attendees to come dressed in costumes if they wish. “This night is for all carnival enthusiasts looking to get a taste of the energy and excitement of the upcoming Carnival season. We have big surprises planned, which will be unveiled throughout the week to add an extra element of fun and spectacle to the night,” he shared.

The early celebration marks the beginning of preparations for Carnival 2025, which will officially launch on Friday, 31 January, with a grand opening ceremony. Santa Cruz de Tenerife aims to make this year’s Carnival an unforgettable experience, bringing together tradition, community, and vibrant cultural expressions.
