Two wines from Tenerife have been recognized among the world’s finest, earning top honors at the first international edition of the Vinos Volcánicos awards, organized by the Wine Connection platform. This competition brought together samples from six countries and thirty different designations of origin, celebrating the uniqueness of volcanic wines.

Among the standout winners, Lagynos from Bodegas Reconquista, part of the Campo de Calatrava Denomination of Origin (DO) in Ciudad Real, Spain, was the highest-rated wine, receiving 96 points. This wine claimed the Gran Oro medal, the competition’s top honor, as revealed in a press release from the event organizers on Monday.
Two Tenerife wines also earned high recognition with scores of 95 points each:

These Tenerife wines shared their glory with Parinacota, a wine produced by Bodegas Volcanes de Chile in the Maule Valley, Chile, which also scored 95 points, earning the prestigious Gran Oro medal.
International Competition and Recognition

In addition to the Gran Oro awards, the competition recognized a variety of other wines from Spain, Italy, Hungary, and Portugal. The jury awarded five gold medals, six silver medals, and one bronze medal, highlighting the diversity and quality of volcanic wines worldwide.
The International Volcanic Wine Awards aim to showcase and promote wines produced in volcanic regions, which are increasingly sought after for their distinct characteristics and growing popularity. The competition, held in Ciudad Real, within the Calatrava-Ciudad Real Volcanoes Geopark, saw a strong turnout, with wines from six different countries and 30 designations of origin participating.
As volcanic wines continue to gain recognition for their unique qualities, this competition further cements Tenerife’s reputation as a leading region for producing world-class volcanic wines.
