The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts that today’s weather in the Canary Islands will be marked by clear skies, with noticeable haze affecting much of the region. This haze may reduce visibility slightly and could contribute to a warm, dry atmosphere typical of Saharan dust events that occasionally reach the islands.
In terms of temperatures, Aemet predicts that maximum temperatures will remain steady or show a slight decrease along the coastal regions. Minimum temperatures, however, are expected to drop slightly to moderately, providing some relief, particularly in the evening and overnight.
Despite this, temperatures in low-altitude areas across Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura are forecast to reach or locally exceed 30 to 32 degrees Celsius. This warmth, combined with the haze, may create a feeling of intense heat in some areas.
The wind will be relatively calm to moderate, blowing primarily from the east to northeast. However, increased wind intensity is expected in the midlands and high-altitude regions, especially during the first half of the day. Areas such as the midlands and summits in Gran Canaria could experience stronger gusts, making conditions feel breezier in elevated areas and potentially reducing the concentration of haze in those regions as the wind disperses particles.
In summary, today’s forecast for the Canaries includes warm temperatures with possible highs over 30 degrees Celsius in lower regions, clear but hazy skies, and an east-northeast breeze that will be more intense in mountainous zones earlier in the day.
