Weather forecast for the Canary Islands – Umbrella recommended

Today's weather in the Canary Islands brings a mix of clouds, occasional showers, and steady temperatures, so keeping an umbrella close might be wise.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts a day of variable weather across the Canary Islands. The northern and western regions are expected to be predominantly cloudy, with a high likelihood of weak and intermittent showers, particularly in the northern areas.

Elsewhere across the archipelago, cloudy intervals will dominate the morning. However, as the afternoon progresses, cloud cover is anticipated to increase in southern areas, where occasional rain showers cannot be ruled out.

Temperatures

Temperatures are not expected to vary significantly compared to recent days. The maximum temperature will reach approximately 22°C in Tenerife, while the lowest reading will drop to 14°C on El Hierro. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, thermometers are forecast to range between a high of 22°C and a low of 18°C.

Wind Conditions

Winds will generally blow from the northeast at moderate speeds. During the afternoon, these winds are expected to shift to a northerly direction and decrease in intensity. However, areas along the southeast and northwest slopes may experience occasional strong gusts.

Island-Specific Conditions

  • Gran Canaria: The north will be predominantly cloudy, with weak and sporadic showers expected. Other areas of the island will see cloudy intervals with little to no precipitation.
  • Lanzarote and Fuerteventura: Both islands will experience intervals of cloudiness. In the afternoon, skies may clear significantly, although isolated and weak rainfall cannot be entirely ruled out.

Aemet emphasises that the overall outlook points to limited sunshine and the possibility of occasional rain. Islanders are advised to keep an umbrella handy, particularly in northern and southern regions prone to showers.
