The storm Garoé has departed from the Canary Islands after delivering two days of intermittent rainfall, primarily affecting the western islands. Despite its impact, no significant incidents were reported.
Rainfall Totals Across the Archipelago
The storm’s most substantial rainfall occurred in the north of La Palma, where precipitation reached 40 litres per square metre, according to meteorological data from Canaryweather. Other notable measurements included:
- La Laguna: 28 litres per square metre.
- San Miguel de Abona (South of Tenerife): 25 litres per square metre – a rare occurrence in this typically dry area.
- Tegueste: 21 litres per square metre.
Additional rainfall was recorded in the following areas:

- La Palma:
- Roque de los Muchachos: 17.2 litres per square metre.
- San Andrés y Sauces: 13.4 litres per square metre.
- Gran Canaria: Valleseco, 12.8 litres per square metre.
- El Hierro: El Pinar, 12.2 litres per square metre.

Teide and Cold Temperatures
The storm’s effects extended to Mount Teide, where light snowflakes fell, marking the return of winter-like conditions. The coldest temperature in the Canary Islands was recorded at one degree below zero at the AEMET station in the Las Cañadas del Teide National Park.
Forecast for the Canary Islands

With the departure of Garoé, atmospheric stability will return to the region:
- Today’s Weather:
- Clouds: Expected mainly in the north of the mountainous islands.
- Rain: Light, scattered, and occasional showers are possible.
- Temperatures: Generally stable, with a slight drop in night-time temperatures.
- Wind: Northeasterly, intensifying in the southeast and northwest slopes during the afternoon.
- Weekend Outlook:
- Saturday: Potential drizzle in the north of Tenerife and La Palma, with daytime temperatures recovering by a couple of degrees.
- Sunday: Few clouds, with temperatures continuing to rise slightly.
Garoé’s Effects on Mainland Spain

The storm weakened as it moved across the Iberian Peninsula, where rainfall was less intense than on Wednesday. However, some areas still experienced significant precipitation:
- Hoyos (Cáceres): 45.2 litres per square metre.
- Cazalla de la Sierra (Seville): 44 litres per square metre.
- La Puebla de los Infantes (Seville): 34.6 litres per square metre.
In Sierra Nevada, temperatures plummeted to -5.5°C, marking the lowest reading on the mainland.
Thus, Garoé leaves the Canary Islands with its characteristic rainfall but without causing major disruptions. As the weather stabilises, residents can expect milder conditions, with only occasional light rain and slight temperature fluctuations in the coming days.
