The DANA (deep atmospheric depression) that began affecting the Canary Islands on Saturday will persist in the coming days, bringing continued rain, snow, and strong winds.
The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has maintained a yellow warning for rain on Monday for Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro, and Gran Canaria, forecasting locally heavy and persistent showers, particularly in inland areas during the afternoon and coastal regions at night.
Additionally, a snow warning remains in place for La Palma, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria, with significant accumulations at high altitudes. In Tenerife, access to the Teide National Park remains closed due to ice patches on roads TF-24 (La Esperanza), TF-21 (La Orotava), and TF-38 (Chío).
Persistent Storm Conditions Over the Canary Islands
AEMET reports that the DANA system, which began impacting the region on Saturday, has created an unstable atmosphere that will persist for several days. Rainfall will be less frequent in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, but from Tuesday onwards, showers will spread to these islands, continuing through the week, albeit with reduced intensity.
Strong winds and rough seas are also expected around the archipelago:
- Variable winds of force 1 to 3, increasing to north or northeast winds of force 5 in certain areas.
- Swells and heavy seas, with waves rising from 1–2 metres to 2–3 metres.
- Occasional thunderstorms and showers across the islands.
Temperatures will remain stable or experience a slight drop. Winds will start as light and northeasterly, gradually shifting northward and intensifying throughout the day.
