The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has provided further clarification on the duration of the current weather warnings affecting the Canary Islands. As of Monday, 24 March, multiple islands remain under yellow alerts due to strong winds and coastal phenomena, including gusts of up to 70 km/h, with some areas like La Gomera expected to experience gusts exceeding 90 km/h.
Ongoing Alerts and Areas Affected
The Directorate General of Emergencies of the Canary Islands Government has also extended its early warning measures, particularly focused on high-altitude zones and exposed slopes, due to persistent strong winds and rough sea conditions.
According to AEMET, all islands remain under some level of weather alert except Fuerteventura:
- Gran Canaria: Alerts are in place for the summits and the east-southeast and west-northwest slopes due to wind until 11:59 p.m. Coastal warnings apply to the eastern, southern, and western coastlines.
- La Gomera: Wind speeds may reach 80 km/h, with gusts over 90 km/h on the eastern and northwestern peaks and slopes.
- Tenerife: Wind alerts are active for the central peaks, ridge, northwestern tip, and eastern slope. Coastal warnings continue for the southeast and western coasts.
- El Hierro: The wind warning focuses on the summits and the southeastern and western slopes.
- La Palma: Alerts cover the summits and the El Paso area, with strong gusts expected until 09:59 a.m.
- Lanzarote: A marine alert remains in place for combined seas of up to 4 metres in the northern half until 11:59 a.m.
General Weather Outlook

The Canary Islands will experience cloudy intervals, especially in the northern regions of the larger islands. Light and occasional rain is likely, particularly in the northeastern midlands.
- Temperatures will remain mostly stable, though a slight increase is expected in mid-altitude zones and mountain peaks.
- Northeast winds will blow moderately to strongly, with very strong gusts in elevated areas and exposed slopes.
Persistent trade winds and combined sea waves of 2.5 to 3.5 metres maintain the pre-alert status for coastal phenomena, especially along:
- The north and west coasts of La Palma, El Hierro, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote;
- The north coasts of La Gomera, Tenerife, and Gran Canaria.
At sea, northerly to north-easterly winds will range from force 5 to 7, generating rough to very rough seas and north swells of 3 to 4 metres. The south and southwest coasts will see variable winds and calmer waters.
