Updated weather forecast for the Canary Islands: Expect cloud cover and occasional light rain

AEMET forecasts cloudy skies and light rain in the north of the Canary Islands, with stable temperatures across the region.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has released an updated weather forecast for the Canary Islands for Thursday, highlighting a day marked by cloudy skies and isolated showers, especially in the northern regions of the islands.

General Outlook for the Canary Islands

In northern areas, cloud cover is expected during the early hours and again in the evening, with a possibility of light, occasional rainfall, particularly affecting the mid-altitude zones. Clearer skies are forecast during the central part of the day.

Elsewhere across the archipelago, skies will generally be partly cloudy or clear, although intermittent cloudiness may appear during the early morning in the western zones and in the south during the afternoon.

Temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged. Forecast highs will reach up to 25°C in Tenerife, while the coolest readings may drop to around 14°C on the island of El Hierro.

Moderate north-easterly winds will predominate, with stronger gusts likely in the far southeast and western areas, particularly during the morning. Coastal breezes are expected on the south-western shores.

Forecast for the Province of Las Palmas

In Gran Canaria, northern parts of the island can expect cloudy skies in the morning and again towards evening, with the chance of light, patchy rain, especially in the midlands. Brighter conditions are expected to develop during the middle of the day. In the rest of the island, skies will remain mostly clear or only lightly clouded, with some cloud build-up in the south by afternoon.

In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, overnight and early morning cloud cover is forecast, and light drizzle in inland areas cannot be ruled out. However, skies will tend to become largely clear for the rest of the day.

Temperatures across the province will show little variation, although slightly warmer conditions are expected in the southeast. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, highs of around 23°C and lows of 20°C are anticipated.

Winds will blow moderately from the north, with occasional strong intervals in the southeastern and northwestern zones, where very strong gusts may occur at times. Breezes are also likely along the southern coastlines.

Recommendation: While umbrellas may not be essential everywhere, those in northern and mid-altitude areas—especially on Gran Canaria—might wish to carry one, just in case of brief, passing showers.
