The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has released its updated forecast for Sunday, 8 June 2025, across the Canary Islands, predicting a drop in temperatures in higher altitudes, with varied cloud cover and wind patterns depending on the island and time of day.
General Overview
On the mountainous islands, especially in their northern regions, the day will begin and end with cloud cover, with clearer skies expected in the central hours. Increased cloudiness is forecast for La Palma and El Hierro, while other islands will experience mostly clear or partly cloudy skies.
Temperatures will remain largely stable, although slight declines are expected in elevated areas. In Tenerife’s central peaks, southwest winds will pick up strength throughout the day, potentially reaching very strong gusts, particularly in the afternoon.
Wind and Sea Conditions

Winds will generally be light to moderate from the north, with coastal breezes throughout the islands. Notably, stronger winds are expected in exposed zones such as the southeastern and western slopes.
At sea, north or northeast winds of force 3 to 5 are anticipated, with moderate to strong swells and northward waves of 1 to 2 metres.
Island-by-Island Forecast
Lanzarote
Mostly clear skies, with some morning clouds in the north and west, and high-level clouds appearing later in the afternoon. Temperatures will remain steady. Winds will blow lightly to moderately from the north, strengthening slightly on the southeastern coast.
Fuerteventura
Similar to Lanzarote: clear conditions overall, with early morning clouds in the north and west and high clouds in the evening. Temperatures unchanged. Winds from the north, light to moderate, with slightly stronger gusts in the southern Jandía Peninsula.
Gran Canaria
In the northern areas below 1000–1100 metres, cloudy skies will dominate early and late in the day, giving way to clearer spells during the midday hours. Elsewhere, expect mainly clear skies. Slight cooling possible in mid-altitude and high zones. Moderate northern winds will strengthen on the southeastern and western slopes during the early morning and evening. Breezes will prevail along the southern coast. In mountainous regions, a westerly wind will gradually shift to moderate southwest.

Tenerife
Cloudy intervals in the north below 1300–1400 metres, with clear skies likely during midday. The rest of the island will see mainly clear conditions, although southern and western coasts may experience occasional cloud cover in the morning and late afternoon. Minimum temperatures could drop slightly in higher areas. Northern winds light to moderate, stronger at the north-west and south-east tips, and in southern parts of the metropolitan zone, especially early and late in the day. Breezes on the western coast. In the central highlands, expect moderate to strong southwesterly winds, with very strong gusts possible by afternoon.
La Gomera
Cloudy intervals expected in the north, clearing up as the day progresses. Clear or partly cloudy in other regions, with some morning clouds near the southern coast. Minimal temperature variation, with a slight dip in high areas. Light to moderate northern winds, strengthening in the northwest and east early and late in the day. Breezes will dominate the southwest coast. Westerly winds in the mountains.
La Palma
Northern and eastern slopes below 1300–1400 metres will be mostly cloudy during the night. Elsewhere, skies will alternate between partly cloudy and increasingly cloudy conditions. Temperatures stable. Winds from the northeast, light to moderate, with stronger bursts in the far southeast and northwest early and late in the day. Westerly breezes in the west. Westerly wind also in higher terrain.

El Hierro
Morning clouds in the north will give way to clearer skies by midday. Elsewhere, expect partly cloudy conditions with increasing cloudiness later. Temperatures will not vary significantly. Northeasterly winds, light to moderate, gaining strength in the eastern and far western parts in the early morning and late afternoon. Breezes expected in the southwest. Westerly wind in the mountains.
Recommendation:
Those in mid-altitude or mountainous regions, particularly in Tenerife, should be prepared for stronger winds in the afternoon. Although rain is not widespread, localised drizzle in northern areas may make a light waterproof jacket or umbrella useful in the early and late hours of the day.
