AEMET issues updated forecast for the Canary Islands: Pre-alert status remains

The Canary Islands remain under pre-alert, with mild temperatures, cloudy skies in the north, and strong trade winds in exposed areas.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has revised its forecast for Monday in the Canary Islands, confirming that the archipelago will remain under pre-alert due to weather conditions, although no major changes in temperature are expected. A mix of cloud cover, localised drizzle, and strong winds will mark the day’s weather.

General Conditions Across the Archipelago

Cloudy skies are expected in the northern parts of the islands, particularly below altitudes of 1,200 to 1,300 metres. In these zones—especially in the northeast—there is a chance of occasional light rain during the early morning, mostly affecting the midlands.

Elsewhere, skies will remain mostly clear or slightly cloudy, though some cloud intervals are likely during the morning along western coastal areas.

Temperatures

No significant variation in temperatures is forecast. Daytime highs may reach up to 27 °C in Tenerife, while the lowest temperatures are expected on El Hierro, dipping to around 15 °C.

Winds

Moderate trade winds will prevail throughout the islands. However, stronger gusts are forecast for the southeast and extreme northwest slopes, where very strong gusts cannot be ruled out—particularly along the southern coast of Tenerife’s metropolitan area. These wind intensities are expected to ease somewhat as the day progresses.

In western coastal areas, light breezes will develop, while in the central mountainous regions, moderate westerly winds are anticipated.

Weather Overview: Province of Las Palmas

The Canary Islands remain under pre-alert, with mild temperatures, cloudy skies in the north, and strong trade winds in exposed areas.

In Las Palmas, northern areas below 1,100 to 1,200 metres will experience overcast skies during the early morning, with a chance of light drizzle in mid-altitude zones. These conditions should improve during the afternoon as clouds begin to clear.

Inland and southern parts of the islands will see generally clear or partly cloudy skies for most of the day.

Temperatures

Temperature readings will remain steady, with only slight declines expected in some inland areas during peak hours.

Wind Conditions

The province will also be affected by moderate trade winds. However, wind speeds will intensify on the southeastern and northwestern slopes, where gusts may reach very strong levels. By evening, wind intensity is expected to diminish somewhat. In the southwest, calmer breezes will prevail.
