Canary Islands weather forecast for Monday: Yellow alert for heat and strong winds

The Canary Islands face heat alerts and strong winds this Monday, with temperatures dropping inland but remaining high in southern mid-altitudes.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a yellow warning for the Canary Islands this Monday due to high temperatures in south-facing mid-altitude areas of Gran Canaria and very strong winds in the southeast of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, as well as on the southern slopes of the Anaga massif in Tenerife.

General Forecast Across the Archipelago

  • Skies: Generally partly cloudy to clear, with more persistent cloud cover along the northern coastal areas of the mountainous islands and in the west of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, especially during the early morning and late afternoon hours.
  • Haze: Light haze at high altitudes, particularly in the easternmost islands.
  • Temperatures: A general decline in temperatures, most notably the maximums in inland areas. Nonetheless, values may still exceed 20 °C in south-facing mid-altitude zones.
  • Winds: Predominantly northerly winds, increasing in strength throughout the day with strong intervals and very strong gusts expected on the eastern and north-western slopes.
  • Sea conditions: Winds from the north or northeast at force 5 to 6, locally 3 to 4 on the north coasts, and occasionally reaching force 7 offshore to the east and west. Expect rough to very rough seas, with variable winds (force 1 to 3) and choppy seas on southern coasts.
