A yellow heat alert remains in effect for the Canary Islands, with haze and strong winds expected in several areas.

This Monday, all autonomous communities in Spain will be under weather alerts due to extreme heat, marking the second day of the intense heatwave sweeping across the country. According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), the highest temperatures are expected in Seville (42 ºC), with Zaragoza, Lleida, Córdoba, and Badajoz also reaching 41 ºC.


Orange and Yellow Alerts: Regional Breakdown

  • Orange alert for extreme heat in:
    • Andalusia, Aragon, Catalonia, Extremadura, Galicia, Navarre, the Basque Country, and La Rioja.
  • Yellow alert for high temperatures in:
    • The Canary Islands (notably Gran Canaria), Asturias, the Balearic Islands, Cantabria, Castile and León, Castile-La Mancha, Madrid, and Murcia.
  • Additional yellow storm alerts are active in:
    • Asturias, Cantabria, Castile and León, Catalonia, and Galicia.
      • In Castile and León and Catalonia, storms could be accompanied by hail and very strong wind gusts.

  • Skies: Mostly clear in the south, with intermittent cloud cover in the north.
  • Haze (Calima): Present across the western Canary Islands, as well as in the Strait of Gibraltar and western mainland Spain.
  • Winds: Moderate north winds will persist, with stronger gusts expected in exposed areas, especially leeward of the Anaga massif (Tenerife), Jandía (Fuerteventura), and eastern Lanzarote.

Temperatures: Trends and Extremes

  • Maximum temperatures:
    • Slight increases are forecast in the northeast, northern Mediterranean coast, and Balearic Islands, with more pronounced rises in the eastern Cantabrian region.
    • Elsewhere, including the Canary Islands, slight decreases are expected—particularly notable along the northwest Galician coast.
    • However, very high temperatures will continue:
      • Over 34–36 ºC across the northeast, northern plateau, and southern half of the peninsula.
      • Above 40 ºC in areas such as the Guadalquivir valley, Extremadura, and the Ebro valley.
  • Minimum temperatures:
    • Rising in the eastern Cantabrian region.
    • Remaining stable elsewhere.
    • Not expected to drop below 20 ºC in much of the southern half, Mediterranean coast, Ebro basin, interior of eastern Cantabria, northern plateau, and southwest Galicia.

  • Mainland and Balearic Islands:
    • Light to moderate winds from the east and south, except Galicia, where northerly winds will prevail.
    • Stronger gusts expected:
      • Along the Galician Atlantic coast (from the north),
      • In the Strait of Gibraltar (from the east, occasionally strong),
      • In Alborán and locally in the Cantabrian Sea.
  • Canary Islands:
    • Moderate northerly winds, strengthening in exposed zones.
    • Very strong gusts likely leeward of elevated terrain—notably the Anaga massif (Tenerife), Jandía (Fuerteventura), and eastern Lanzarote.
