Suffocating heat, strong winds, and haze wxpected in the Canary Islands

Strong winds, high temperatures, and haze mark weather in the Canary Islands, says AEMET.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a detailed forecast for the Canary Islands, warning of high temperatures, strong gusty winds, and hazy conditions that will affect multiple islands throughout the day.

General Conditions

Across much of the archipelago, skies will range from partly cloudy to clear, with more persistent cloud cover expected in low-lying northern areas, particularly in the early morning and late afternoon.

On Tenerife, occasional light drizzle may occur on the northern slopes of the Anaga massif, especially during the early hours. Light haze is forecast to develop in the midlands and highland areas, becoming more prominent in the second half of the day.

  • Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, though values may locally exceed 30°C in the southern midlands.
  • Expected range: Highs of 27°C in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, lows of 16°C in El Hierro.

Wind Conditions

The northeast trade wind will persist across the islands, becoming strongest in the far west and on the eastern flanks of the mountainous islands.

  • Very strong gusts are likely, especially overnight, and may also impact mid-altitude zones.
  • In the mountains, winds will generally be light and variable.
