AEMET issues Friday weather forecast for Canary Islands: Key alerts for heat and winds

AEMET forecasts temperatures above 30 °C and strong winds this Friday across the Canary Islands, with special alerts for the southern midlands.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has released its weather forecast for Friday, 11 July, highlighting high temperatures and strong winds as the main phenomena to watch across the Canary Islands. Special attention is being paid to the southern midlands, where temperatures are expected to reach or exceed 30°C, excluding Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.

A light calima (Saharan dust haze) present at high altitudes will gradually diminish over the course of the day. Meanwhile, trade winds will intensify, especially during the afternoon, with strong gusts forecast in several areas.

Maritime Conditions

At sea, north-easterly winds of force 4 to 5 are expected, strengthening to force 6 offshore in the north-west and south-east of the archipelago. These areas will experience rough to very rough seas. Elsewhere, winds will be between force 3 and 4, with calmer conditions (force 2 to 3) near the coast. In the western zones, variable breezes will create slight to moderate swells.

In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, temperatures will range from 21°C to 28°C, with the possibility of exceeding 30°C in mid-altitude zones. Trade winds will pick up during the afternoon, particularly in the east and around the Teno Massif, where very strong gusts are likely.

Clear skies will dominate, apart from some northern low cloud. The calima will gradually dissipate. Minimum temperatures will rise slightly in the southern midlands, where highs could exceed 30°C. In San Sebastián de La Gomera, temperatures will range from 22°C to 26°C. Strong trade winds are expected, with potential for very strong gusts on the southeastern and northwestern slopes.

La Palma

Predominantly clear skies are forecast, with cloud intervals in the north and east. The light haze will lift during the day. Temperatures will remain largely stable, though a rise is expected in the west, particularly in minimum values. Maximum temperatures could reach 30°C.
