Unstable weather expected in the Canary Islands this Friday, warns AEMET

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a new pre-alert for the Canary Islands, warning of unstable weather conditions expected this Friday, 25 July 2025.

According to AEMET, skies across most of the Canary Islands will be generally clear, particularly in the southern and western regions. However, the northern areas will experience more cloud cover, with intervals of cloudiness expected throughout the day.


In the northeast of the archipelago, especially at elevations below 1,200 to 1,300 metres, skies will be mostly cloudy during the early morning hours, with a chance of light drizzle. These conditions are forecast to clear up gradually as the day progresses.

Temperatures

  • Temperatures will remain largely stable, although a slight decrease in maximum temperatures is possible in the southeastern areas of Tenerife.
  • Forecasted temperature range:
    • High of 29°C in Tenerife
    • Low of 16°C in El Hierro

  • Light to moderate winds from the north will dominate the islands.
  • Winds are expected to ease off by the end of the day.
  • On southern coasts, breezes will prevail.
  • In the high mountain areas, light winds from the east are forecast.

Regional Forecast: Province of Las Palmas

Gran Canaria:

  • In the northern part of the island, below 1,200–1,300 metres, skies will be mostly cloudy in the early hours, with a possibility of drizzle.
  • These cloudy conditions are expected to clear as the day advances.
  • In the rest of the island, skies will be partly cloudy.

Lanzarote and Fuerteventura:

  • Skies will start off cloudy, but will clear progressively during the day, except in the western areas, where cloudiness may persist longer.

  • Minimum temperatures will remain largely unchanged.
  • Maximum temperatures will rise slightly, especially inland.
  • Temperature range:
    • Low: 22°C
    • High: 25°C

Wind in Las Palmas Province

  • Winds will be moderate from the north, in line with the general archipelago trend.
  • Breezes will be more prominent along the southern coasts.

While much of the Canary Islands will enjoy generally fine weather, cloudy skies and light drizzle are expected in northern and northeastern areas during the early hours. Winds will be mild, and temperatures will remain stable, with minor fluctuations depending on region and elevation. Residents, especially in the north and mountainous areas, are advised to stay updated on further bulletins from AEMET as weather conditions evolve.
