The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a yellow alert for high temperatures across several Canary Islands for Monday, 28 July 2025, warning that maximum temperatures could reach up to 36ºC in some areas. The warning applies specifically to Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro, with mid-altitude zones facing south and west expected to be most affected.
Heat Alert Timings and Affected Zones
The yellow-level alert will be in force between 10:00 a.m. and 7:59 p.m. on Monday. The most intense heat is expected on Gran Canaria, particularly in the highlands and in the eastern, southern, and western regions of the island. According to AEMET, areas such as the Tejeda and Tirajana basins and the southeast, south, and west-facing midlands may see temperatures exceeding 36ºC locally.

The probability of these conditions occurring is over 70%, prompting the official activation of the yellow warning.
Other Islands Under Alert
On the remaining islands under heat alert, maximum temperatures of up to 34ºC are anticipated, with a moderate probability (40–70%) of such conditions materialising. The key areas include:
- La Palma: Peak and western zones, especially the south- and west-facing midlands. In the metropolitan area, the southern coast will experience the most intense heat.
- La Gomera and El Hierro: Temperatures around 34ºC expected in southern and western mid-altitude areas.
- Tenerife: The alert affects the metropolitan area, as well as the eastern, southern, and western zones. Peaks of 34ºC are forecasted, especially along the southern coastal strip near metropolitan regions.
Forecast for Tuesday

For Tuesday, AEMET forecasts partly cloudy to mostly clear skies, with some cloud intervals expected along the northern coast in the early morning and again late in the day.
Temperatures are expected to remain stable or drop slightly, particularly on the eastern slopes. However, maximum temperatures of up to 34ºC may still be recorded in south- and west-facing mid-altitude areas, where night-time lows are forecast to stay above 24ºC.
Winds will be moderate to occasionally strong trade winds along the southeast and extreme northwest slopes, while light breezes will prevail in the southwest of the mountainous islands. On the peaks of the western islands, light winds of variable direction are anticipated.
