The 40th National Gastronomy Awards honoured Spain's top culinary talents and sustainable innovations.

The prestigious 40th edition of the National Gastronomy Awards, organised by the DIARIO DE AVISOS Foundation, was held yet another year at the Teatro de El Sauzal. The gala honoured outstanding contributions in the culinary world, recognising talent, dedication, sustainability, and creativity across the sector.


These awards, the oldest of their kind presented by a Spanish media outlet, aim to highlight individuals and establishments that push boundaries while preserving gastronomic heritage.

Highlights of the 2025 Award Winners

  • Manuel Iglesias Award:
    Awarded to Miguel Navarro, head chef of the Michelin-starred Es Fum restaurant at the St. Regis Maravall Hotel in Palma de Mallorca. Born in La Gomera, Navarro represents the story of a chef who rose from humble beginnings, building a distinguished career without ever stepping away from the kitchen.
  • Award for Best Work in Promoting Gastronomy:
    Presented to María Ritter, director of Guía Repsol, in recognition of her transformative leadership in turning the classic culinary guide into a dynamic digital platform with a thriving follower base.

  • Best International Restaurant:
    Il Bocconcino, under the leadership of chef Niki Pavanelli, was recognised for merging Italian culinary traditions with local Canarian ingredients at the Royal Hideaway Corales in Costa Adeje.
  • #ConsumeCanario Award:
    Given to El Secreto de Chimiche, with chef Diana Marcelino and sommelier Roberto Castro, mentored by Juan Carlos Clemente. The restaurant was commended for its deep commitment to Canarian produce and the creative revival of local culinary traditions.
  • Best Wine Project:
    Tierra Fundida, led by Loreto Pancorbo and Gabriel Morales, received this honour for producing expressive wines using traditional methods that respect and reflect the unique character of the Canarian terroir.
  • Best Restaurant:
    Kamezí in Lanzarote, headed by Rubén Cuesta and located in Kamezí Boutique Villas (Playa Blanca, Yaiza), was awarded for earning the island’s first Michelin star with a cuisine centred on local produce and marine ingredients.
  • Best Pastry Establishment:
    Guirlache (Las Palmas), a family-run institution founded over 50 years ago by Aníbal Rodríguez Martín, and now operated by his children Elba and Pedro Rodríguez Medina. With four locations, it continues to define pastry excellence in Gran Canaria.
  • Best National Restaurant:
    ARAHY (Madrid), run by chef José Ynglada (alias ‘Mundy’), a Cuban-born Spaniard, was recognised for his masterful and varied use of bluefin tuna, a highlight of his signature cuisine.

  • Best Gastronomy Television Programme:
    Comerse el mundo, presented by Javier Peña, received the award for its unique blend of culinary exploration and cultural immersion, featuring destinations such as Prague, Bali, Asunción, Oslo, and Shanghai.
  • Ambassador of Canarian Gastronomy (New Category):
    Singer and cultural advocate Juan Carlos ‘Caco’ Senante was honoured for championing the values of Canarian gastronomy, including local consumption, sustainability, solidarity, health, and flavour.

A Night to Remember

The ceremony included performances by comedian and musician Aaron Gómez, adding levity and cultural flair to an evening already rich in emotion and pride. The gala concluded with a celebratory tasting cocktail held in the theatre square, marking four decades of culinary recognition.

The entire event was broadcast by Atlántico Televisión, the official regional media partner of the DIARIO DE AVISOS Foundation.
