The Canary Islands experienced an unprecedented influx of international tourists in June 2025, reaching a historic high of 1,078,407 visitors. This figure represents a 3.15% increase compared to June 2024 and is the highest number ever recorded for that month, according to the latest report from Spain’s National Statistics Institute (INE). This surge was also reflected in tourist spending, which reached €1,560.65 million, an 8.5% increase year-on-year — also a record for the month.

On average, each international visitor spent €190 per day, slightly up (+0.16%) from the previous year. The average length of stay was 7.62 days, with total spending per person at €1,447, a 5.2% increase compared to June 2024.

From January to June 2025, the Canary Islands welcomed 7.84 million tourists, up 4%, who collectively spent €11.87 billion, a 7.2% rise year-on-year. These figures underline the continuing strength of tourism in the archipelago, which is experiencing its best semester ever.

National Context: Spain Sets New Tourism Records

Spain as a whole saw 44.5 million international arrivals in the first half of 2025, a 4.7% increase over the same period in 2024. The Canary Islands remained the second most visited region, after Catalonia (9.3 million visitors), and ahead of Andalusia (6.8 million).

The Balearic Islands were the most visited in June specifically (23.88% of the national total), followed by Catalonia (21.09%) and Andalusia (15.04%). The Canary Islands maintained a robust share of the market throughout the semester.

Spending Outpaces Visitor Growth

While arrivals rose steadily, spending increased at a faster pace, reflecting a trend the tourism sector values: shorter stays, but higher per-day spending. Across Spain, €59.62 billion was spent by international tourists from January to June 2025 (+7.5%). The average daily expenditure rose to €209 (+6.5%), even though the average trip duration dropped to 6.6 days (−2.8%).
