The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued a stark forecast for the Canary Islands: temperatures are set to climb once again, with highs of up to 36 ºC expected in parts of Gran Canaria this Sunday, and 34 ºC across several of the western islands.
General Conditions
Skies will remain mostly clear or partly cloudy, with occasional cloudy intervals in the north at low altitudes. In Tenerife, additional cloud cover is expected to develop over Las Cañadas. Calima (Saharan dust haze) will persist at mid and high levels, reducing visibility and worsening the sensation of heat.
Temperatures will rise slightly, becoming moderate in some inland and mid-altitude areas. The hottest conditions are forecast for:
- Gran Canaria: 36 ºC in the Tejeda basin and in the south, south-east and west midlands.
- Western islands: 34 ºC in the south- and west-facing midlands.

Trade winds will blow at moderate strength, intensifying on south-eastern and north-western slopes, with very strong gusts possible in exposed areas. Breezes will dominate on south-western coasts.
At sea, north to north-easterly winds will reach force 5 or 6, occasionally 7 offshore in the south-east and west, with heavy to strong swells. More sheltered north coasts will see lighter force 3 winds and choppy seas, while southern and south-western shores may experience variable force 1 to 3.

Outlook from the Weather Agency
The Canary Islands are set for another hot, dry, and dusty Sunday, with calima, high temperatures, and strong winds combining to make conditions uncomfortable, particularly inland and on southern slopes. Authorities advise residents and visitors to take precautions against heat stress and poor air quality.
