Iberia Express responds to Ryanair’s cutbacks: 30,000 extra seats for the Canary Islands starting in October

Iberia Express is adding 30,000 extra seats in the Canary Islands from October to boost connectivity.

Iberia Express has announced a significant reinforcement of its operations in the Canary Islands, adding nearly 30,000 additional seats between October 2025 and January 2026. The expansion represents a 5% increase in capacity compared with the airline’s initial schedule.

The measure comes at a crucial moment for the archipelago, just days after rival airline Ryanair confirmed it would cut 400,000 seats on its Canary Islands routes.

How the Capacity Increase Will Be Achieved

The airline will achieve this boost by:

  • Operating 116 extra flights during the four-month period.
  • Making over 150 aircraft changes, deploying larger Airbus A321neo aircraft to increase available seating.

With this move, Iberia Express says it is reaffirming its commitment to connectivity for Canary Islands residents, while also contributing to the development of less seasonal, more sustainable, and more responsible tourism.

Focus on Tenerife and Gran Canaria

The largest increases will be concentrated in the main inter-island hubs:

  • Tenerife North (Los Rodeos): Capacity will rise by more than 15,000 additional seats, with up to 8 daily flights to Madrid during the winter season.
  • Tenerife South: Nearly 850 additional seats have been added, bringing the route to 3 daily flights.
  • Gran Canaria: Capacity has grown by 8,300 additional seats, bolstered by 42 extra flights, reaching up to 10 daily flights to Madrid.

Other Islands Benefit Too

  • Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Palma, together receiving 4,500 extra seats for the upcoming season.
