The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts a wet and windy Thursday, 11 September, across the Canary Islands, advising residents and visitors to keep their umbrellas close at hand.
General Forecast
- Skies and Rain:
Cloudy skies will dominate in the north of the islands, with light and occasional rain likely in the midlands, especially in higher and northeastern areas. Elsewhere, skies will be slightly cloudy or clear, with some intervals during the day. - Temperatures:
Temperatures will remain largely unchanged or experience a slight rise, more noticeable in the midlands and on the eastern slopes of the archipelago. - Winds:
The trade winds from the northeast will blow moderately, with intervals of strong winds. On the southeast and northwest slopes of the mountainous islands, very strong gusts are possible. Breezes will dominate on the southwest coasts.

- Sea Conditions:
At sea, winds from the north and northeast will reach force 5 to 6, locally up to 7, creating rough to very rough seas. On the south and southwest coasts, winds will be lighter (force 1 to 3), with slight swells or choppy seas. A north swell is also expected, bringing waves between 1 and 2 meters.

- Tenerife:
Northern areas will be mostly cloudy, with light rain probable in the northeast midlands. Intervals of cloud are expected in the west, with clearer conditions in the east and at the central peaks. Temperatures will rise slightly, particularly in the midlands and on the eastern side.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife: 23ºC / 28ºC - La Gomera:
Cloudy in the north, with light and occasional showers in the midlands during early and late hours. The rest of the island will be lightly cloudy.
San Sebastián de La Gomera: 23ºC / 28ºC - La Palma:
North and east sectors will remain cloudy, with light rain in the midlands, more frequent in the northeast. The west will see clearer skies with some intervals in the afternoon.
Santa Cruz de La Palma: 22ºC / 26ºC - El Hierro:
Cloudy in the north, with a low chance of light rain in the northeast midlands. Intervals elsewhere. Highs will rise in the southern and eastern midlands.
Valverde: 17ºC / 20ºC

- Gran Canaria:
Predominantly cloudy in the north, with the chance of light rain in the midlands, especially early and late in the day. The rest of the island will be partly cloudy or clear. Trade winds will be moderate with strong intervals in the southeast and west.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: 22ºC / 25ºC - Fuerteventura:
Cloudy skies in the north and west, giving way to clearer conditions in the afternoon. Elsewhere, intervals of cloud with sunnier periods in the middle of the day. Temperatures will rise slightly on the eastern side.
Puerto del Rosario: 22ºC / 28ºC - Lanzarote:
Cloudy in the north and west, with intervals in other areas. Clearer skies will prevail during midday. Winds will be moderate with strong intervals, and very strong gusts are possible inland in the south.
Arrecife: 22ºC / 27ºC

While temperatures hold steady or rise slightly, the combination of strong trade winds and rough seas means unsettled conditions both on land and at sea.
