A storm front passing over the Canary Islands will bring rain, storms, and fog to several areas of Spain this Friday, prompting weather warnings in thirteen provinces, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).
Alerts in the Canary Islands and Mainland Spain
In the Canary Islands, the islands of El Hierro, La Palma, and La Gomera will be under yellow-level warnings for rain, where precipitation could be heavy and persistent, particularly in western areas and on the high peaks of La Palma. Rainfall amounts could reach up to 60 litres per square metre in these zones.
Elsewhere in Spain, rain and storm alerts have been issued for Granada, Jaén, Castellón, Valencia, Albacete, Cuenca, Mallorca, Ibiza, Formentera, and Teruel. Additionally, rain warnings will be active in Barcelona, Girona, Tarragona, and in the aforementioned Canary Islands, while Lugo will be on alert for fog.
General Forecast Across Spain

AEMET forecasts mostly clear skies for much of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, although low morning clouds are expected along the Mediterranean coast, the Cantabrian Sea, northern Galicia, and the Ebro Valley, as well as inland areas of the southeast and northeast.
At dawn, showers are likely along the Catalan coast, some of which may be locally intense, though conditions should improve as the day progresses.
By the afternoon, medium and high-level clouds will increase over the centre of the peninsula and the Alborán Sea, extending to the Balearic Islands and the southern half of the mainland. This will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially in mountainous regions of the centre and south, and across the eastern interior of the peninsula.
These showers may also reach the easternmost inland areas of the peninsula and Mallorca, and—though less likely—the mountain ranges of Andalusia and the Pitiusas Islands.
Weather Outlook for the Canary Islands
In the Canary Islands, the arrival of a cold front will bring cloudy to overcast skies and widespread rainfall, particularly in the western islands. AEMET warns that rainfall could be locally heavy and persistent, though the eastern islands are expected to experience only intermittent cloud cover and lighter precipitation.
Fog, Temperatures, and Wind

Morning and evening fog or fog banks are likely across the northern and eastern regions of the peninsula and locally around the Alborán Sea. Fog may be denser and more persistent in the northern interior of Lugo, with possible coastal mist in the Galician estuaries.
- Temperatures:
- Maximums: Little change is expected, except for slight increases in the Cantabrian region.
- Minimums: Likely to fall across the southern half of the peninsula, the Pyrenees, and parts of Galicia and Asturias, but to rise in the Canary Islands and the middle Ebro Valley.
- Light frosts may occur at the highest Pyrenean peaks.
- Winds:
- Moderate easterly winds will prevail along the Cantabrian coast and Alborán, with strong gusts in the Strait of Gibraltar.
- Elsewhere, winds will generally be light, with westerlies along the northern Atlantic coast and the western Canary Islands, and easterly to southerly flows in the rest of the country.
Friday’s weather in Spain will be dominated by unsettled conditions, with rain, storms, and fog affecting several regions. In the Canary Islands, La Palma, La Gomera, and El Hierro face the highest risk, as the approaching front could bring heavy and prolonged rainfall—a reminder to keep umbrellas and raincoats close at hand.
