The 10th Taburiente Awards took place at the historic Teatro Leal in La Laguna, bringing together almost five hundred guests to celebrate exceptional talent, professional achievement, and social commitment. Organised annually by the DIARIO DE AVISOS Foundation, the awards recognise individuals and organisations that excel in fields such as culture, communication, business, artistic creation, and humanitarian action.
This edition stood out not only for honouring excellence, but also for its strong message: a call for peace, hope, and the defence of children, especially those who are victims of war and conflict.
A tribute with a message: children affected by war take centre stage

The ceremony opened at 8 p.m. with presenter María José Enríquez introducing the evening and the honourees. One of the most emotional moments was the jury’s special recognition, dedicated to children affected by armed conflicts worldwide—the most vulnerable victims of war.
The distinction was symbolically presented by two children displaced by the war in Ukraine to representatives of organisations working for humanitarian relief and peace. The auditorium rose to its feet in a prolonged ovation.
Recognition of careers marked by excellence and influence

Throughout the evening, the eleven award recipients—each notable in their field—received their tribute on stage:
- Santiago González, journalist from La Orotava, honoured for his professional excellence.
- Moncho Borrajo, playwright and major figure in Spanish theatre and culture.
- Javier de Paz, president of Movistar Plus, recognised for innovation in audiovisual media.
- Maribel Nazco, one of the most important representatives of contemporary Canarian art.
- José Manuel Ramos, Tenerife singer known for preserving Canarian folklore, who performed on stage.
- Félix Sabroso, Gran Canaria film director with a distinguished creative career.
- Rafa Méndez, internationally recognised Tenerife choreographer and performer.
- José Fernando Cabrera, key figure in the development of the tourism sector in the Canary Islands.
- Sur Film, leading audiovisual production company in Spain and a regular partner for major international film studios.
- Nia, singer from Gran Canaria and winner of the Viña del Mar International Song Festival, who closed the gala with a performance.
Each award highlighted talent, perseverance, and contribution to society, whether through creativity, entrepreneurship, or cultural preservation.
A message of responsibility and hope

In his speech, Lucas Fernández, president of the DIARIO DE AVISOS Foundation, stressed that thousands of children are currently suffering the consequences of conflicts around the world. He denounced the lack of protection for minors, recalling attacks on schools and hospitals, and the obstruction of humanitarian aid. He declared:
“We are not talking about charity. We are talking about violated rights and unfulfilled obligations.”
Fernández underlined that this year’s special mention was intended to give visibility and dignity to children living in war zones, reminding the audience that “from our islands, we feel and reject the atrocities committed against children anywhere in the world.”
He closed his speech with a message of hope:
“Each of the award winners proves that effort, passion and commitment can transform reality. True greatness lies not in applause or recognition, but in acting with integrity and sowing hope where there is none.”
