Aemet forecasts a mix of haze, rain and temperatures reaching 30°C in the Canary Islands

Hazy skies and warm air sweep across the islands, bringing a touch of summer to November.

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has forecast a combination of haze, light rain and unseasonably warm temperatures for this Monday in the Canary Islands, with some areas expected to reach 30°C.

Across much of the archipelago, skies will feature intervals of medium and high cloud, with the possibility of occasional light rain, particularly in the high mountain zones of Tenerife.

Tenerife: Yellow Warning for Calima

Tenerife will remain under a yellow warning for calima (Saharan dust), as high concentrations of suspended dust are expected at low altitudes, especially on the southern and eastern slopes during the early hours and morning. The haze will persist throughout the day, though with slightly lower concentrations, gradually diminishing towards the late afternoon.

Temperatures will continue to rise, with minimums increasing slightly to moderately and maximums climbing mainly along northern slopes. In coastal and low-lying southern and western areas, temperatures could exceed 30°C.

Winds will blow moderately from the east, tending to southeasterly in midland and highland regions, and will ease to light during the morning. Along the northern coasts, breezes will predominate, while on the central peaks, southerly winds will range from light to moderate, with strong gusts early in the day.

Gran Canaria: Dust and Heat Dominate

Similar conditions are forecast for Gran Canaria, where skies will show medium and high cloud layers and occasional light rain cannot be ruled out.

A yellow warning for calima has also been issued for the island, due to high dust concentrations at low levels, particularly affecting the southern and eastern slopes during the early morning hours. The haze will persist into the afternoon but will gradually weaken later in the day.

Minimum temperatures will increase slightly to moderately, while maximums will rise slightly, especially in inland and northern areas. In coastal and low-lying zones, particularly those facing south and west, the mercury may surpass 30°C.

Easterly winds will be moderate, tending to southeasterly over the midlands and highlands, easing to light breezes as the day progresses. On the north-western coasts, breezes will prevail.

Aemet describes Monday as a day of contrasts, with dust-laden skies, high temperatures, and the chance of light rain creating a “meteorological cocktail” across the islands. Conditions are expected to improve gradually from midweek, as the haze dissipates and temperatures return closer to seasonal norms.
