The AEMET confirms it: More snow is expected on Mount Teide

Snow is expected to return to Mount Teide as colder air and fresh precipitation move across the islands.

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has confirmed that new snowfall is forecast for Mount Teide, as another pulse of unstable weather moves across the Canary Islands. While overall temperatures will remain fairly steady, the central peaks may experience a noticeable drop, with light frosts possible at higher altitudes.

Cloudier Skies and New Precipitation

According to AEMET, Friday’s weather will begin with cloudy intervals, but skies are expected to become generally overcast as the morning progresses.

  • Rainfall is likely in the northern areas, particularly during the morning and again late in the afternoon.
  • Light, occasional showers may also appear in mid-altitude zones on other slopes, though these will be weaker and more scattered.

In the mountains, the snow line is forecast between 2,400 and 2,600 metres, making fresh snowfall on Teide very probable.

Temperatures: Mostly Stable, With Colder Peaks

The AEMET Confirms It: More Snow Is Expected on Mount Teide

Temperatures will remain broadly unchanged across the islands.
However:

  • Central peaks may experience a slight drop, bringing conditions cold enough for patchy frost.
  • Maximum temperatures will rise slightly in the northern midlands.

Across the islands, values will range from:

  • 23°C maximum in Tenerife
  • 13°C minimum in El Hierro

Winds Strengthening Later in the Day

Winds will generally blow lightly from the north, shifting to the northeast as the day progresses. Later in the afternoon and evening:

  • Wind speeds will increase, especially on the southeast slopes, where very strong gusts cannot be ruled out.
  • At high altitudes on Mount Teide, winds may become occasionally strong from the north.

Province of Las Palmas: Cloudier North and Scattered Showers

The AEMET Confirms It: More Snow Is Expected on Mount Teide

For Friday, 19 December 2025, AEMET forecasts:

  • Gran Canaria: Mostly cloudy, with light rain possible in the north during the afternoon.
  • Lanzarote and Fuerteventura: Cloudy intervals, with a low chance of light, isolated showers.

Temperatures will remain stable, though:

  • Minimum temperatures may fall slightly inland.
  • Maximum temperatures may rise a little in the northern midlands.

In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, temperatures will fluctuate between 17°C and 22°C. Winds will be light from the north, strengthening on the eastern and western slopes, and shifting to the northeast later in the day as conditions become breezier.
