The Aemet forecast: Christmas Eve in the Canary Islands will also bring rain

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) confirms that the unstable weather affecting the archipelago in recent days will continue throughout Christmas Eve, with rain expected across several islands and stronger winds developing later in the day.

Cloudy skies and increasing rainfall

The day begins with cloudy intervals in the northern areas, where some brief sunny spells may appear around midday. Elsewhere in the archipelago, skies will remain lightly cloudy during the morning.

From midday onwards, however, the weather will worsen. Cloudy or overcast conditions will spread, especially across the north and west, bringing persistent light to moderate rainfall. In the remaining areas of the islands, rain will be weaker and less likely, according to Aemet.

  • 12°C minimum in El Hierro

Winds strengthening throughout the day

North-westerly winds will blow at moderate intensity, but will strengthen noticeably as the afternoon progresses.

Aemet warns that strong gusts are expected in the northeast and southwest, particularly in higher-altitude areas, where very strong gusts may occur at times.
