Weather agency warns: Moderate and persistent rainfall spreads across the Canary Islands

The islands face another day of unstable conditions, with moderate rainfall in the north and very strong gusts at higher altitudes.

Moderate and locally persistent rain is expected across several islands this Sunday as a stable but unsettled weather pattern settles over the archipelago, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

Cloudier Conditions and More Consistent Rainfall in the North

The northern slopes of the islands will see the most notable rainfall, with skies remaining mostly cloudy throughout the day.
AEMET forecasts:

  • Moderate and regular rainfall in the midlands, where precipitation will be most persistent.
  • Cloudy intervals elsewhere, with a low probability of brief, light showers—although cloud cover will increase on the southeastern sides of the islands as the afternoon progresses.

Temperatures: Little Change, but Slight Decreases in Some Areas

Weather agency warns: Moderate and persistent rainfall spreads across the Canary Islands

Temperatures across the archipelago will remain broadly stable, although:

  • Maximum temperatures in the north may drop slightly.
  • Light frosts remain possible at high elevations on Mount Teide due to cooler overnight conditions.

Temperatures will generally range between:

  • 21°C as a maximum in Tenerife
  • 12°C as a minimum in El Hierro

Wind: Locally Very Strong Gusts on Exposed Slopes and High Peaks

Winds will blow predominantly from the northwest and may intensify in exposed areas:

  • Strong intervals on southwest-facing slopes, where locally very strong gusts cannot be ruled out.
  • Strong northwesterly winds in the central peaks, with the potential for locally very strong gusts that should gradually ease during the second half of the day.

Coastal Alerts Remain in Force Across the Canary Islands

Weather agency warns: Moderate and persistent rainfall spreads across the Canary Islands

While wind alerts have been lifted, the Directorate-General for Security of the Canary Islands Government is keeping a coastal alert active across all islands.

Marine Conditions: 4–5 Metre Waves Expected

A combined northwesterly swell is forecast to produce waves between 4 and 5 metres, prompting authorities to recommend:

  • Avoiding water sports
  • Securing boats and coastal equipment

The Tenerife Island Council has already deactivated the Tenerife Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) following the improvement in general weather conditions, though caution at sea remains essential.
