Morning showers will give way to more settled conditions later in the day, although wind and cloud will remain noticeable across the islands

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has updated its forecast for the Canary Islands for Wednesday, 21 January 2026, warning of light rainfall that could become locally moderate, particularly during the first half of the day. Conditions are expected to ease from midday onwards, with clearer spells developing in several areas.


Rain will mainly affect the islands in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Gran Canaria, while cloudy intervals are forecast for Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Temperatures will remain largely stable or rise slightly, with minimum values around 16°C across both provinces and maximums between 20°C and 21°C. Winds will be light to moderate from the north, veering north-westerly during the afternoon.

Tenerife

In the north, skies will be mostly cloudy, with probable light rain in the early morning, clearing during the afternoon. Elsewhere, conditions will be generally cloudy, with occasional breaks in the south. Temperatures will remain unchanged or rise slightly. Light frosts are possible in the central mountain areas. Winds will blow light to moderate from the north to north-west, strengthening in the central highlands, where very strong gusts are likely.

Lanzarote

Skies will be cloudy, with likely light rain during the first half of the day, which may be locally moderate in the early hours. Clearer intervals are expected in the afternoon. Temperatures will remain stable. Winds will start light from the north, turning north-westerly and increasing to moderate later in the day.

Fuerteventura

The island will see cloudy skies with probable light rain during the morning, potentially locally moderate early on, followed by occasional sunny spells in the afternoon. Temperatures will show little change. Winds will be light to moderate from the north, shifting north-westerly after midday.

Gran Canaria

In the north, skies will be mostly cloudy with probable light rain in the early morning, becoming more variable later. Across the rest of the island, cloudy intervals are expected, tending towards partly cloudy conditions after midday. Temperatures will remain steady or rise slightly. Winds will be moderate from the north-west, with strong intervals in the north-east during the morning and in the east and west during the afternoon.

La Gomera

The north will experience mainly cloudy skies with probable light rain early in the day, easing at times in the afternoon. Elsewhere, cloudy intervals will gradually give way to lighter cloud cover after midday. Temperatures will remain stable or increase slightly. Winds will be moderate from the north, with strong gusts on eastern and western slopes and peaks.

La Palma

In the north, skies will be predominantly cloudy with a low probability of light rain early in the morning, clearing intermittently later on. The rest of the island will enjoy generally clear conditions, with some cloud in the south. Temperatures will remain unchanged or rise slightly. Winds will be light to moderate from the north, with strong intervals in high-altitude areas.

El Hierro

The north will be mostly cloudy, with a low chance of light rain during the early hours, easing in the afternoon. Elsewhere, skies will remain generally cloudy. Temperatures will show little change or a slight increase. Winds will be light to moderate from the north.

Overall, Wednesday will bring cloudy conditions and scattered rain across much of the archipelago, with the most unsettled weather during the morning and gradual improvement as the day progresses, particularly in the afternoon.
