The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has warned of strong waves and a marked change in weather conditions across the Canary Islands today, as a shift in atmospheric dynamics brings increased cloud cover, cooler temperatures and strengthening winds.
According to the forecast, cloudy skies will dominate coastal areas and mid-altitudes during the morning, with a low probability of occasional light drizzle, particularly in exposed zones. As the day progresses, conditions are expected to improve noticeably, with widespread clear skies developing during the afternoon, especially inland and at lower elevations. In higher areas, skies will remain partly cloudy to mostly clear throughout the day.
Temperatures edge down slightly

Temperatures will experience a slight decrease compared to previous days. Maximum values are expected to reach around 23 °C in Tenerife, while minimum temperatures could fall to about 12 °C on El Hierro, reflecting cooler conditions, especially overnight and in elevated areas.
Winds strengthen and shift
Wind will play a key role in today’s weather. It will initially blow light to moderate from the north-west, becoming stronger in mid-altitude and mountainous areas. As the day turns into evening, the wind will veer to the north, maintaining moderate strength and reinforcing the sensation of cooler conditions. Along the coast, breezes will predominate, gradually intensifying during the afternoon.
Gran Canaria
On Gran Canaria, skies will feature cloudy intervals, with cloud cover increasing on the northern side of the island during the night. Temperatures will remain relatively stable, with only minor variations. Winds will follow a similar pattern to the rest of the archipelago, remaining light at first and strengthening later in the day.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura

In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, cloudy skies will prevail for much of the day, although large clear spells are expected during the afternoon. There is a low probability of light and isolated rain during the morning hours. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, ranging between 22 °C and 17 °C in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Winds will be light from the north-west, with coastal breezes strengthening to moderate levels and turning northerly later in the day, particularly in exposed and elevated areas.
Caution advised at sea
Although inland conditions will gradually stabilise, AEMET stresses that the most significant impact will be felt along the coast, where strong waves and changing winds may create hazardous marine conditions. Residents and visitors are advised to remain alert, especially in coastal and exposed areas, and to follow official guidance as weather conditions evolve throughout the day.
