A noticeable shift in weather conditions is forecast for the Canary Islands this Thursday, with rain, stronger winds and yellow-level warnings activated by the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). While the day will begin with relatively stable conditions, the situation is expected to worsen from the afternoon onwards, particularly along exposed coastal areas.
Yellow Warning for Coastal Phenomena
AEMET has issued a yellow warning for coastal phenomena across large parts of the archipelago due to the arrival of a combined north-westerly swell. Wave heights could reach up to 5 metres, creating hazardous maritime conditions.
According to the latest forecast, sea conditions will become increasingly adverse from the afternoon, initially affecting the north and west coasts of the western islands, before spreading progressively to the rest of the Canary Islands.
Areas Under Yellow Warning and Activation Times

The coastal risk will develop gradually throughout the day:
- La Palma: warning active from 3:00 p.m. (east and west coasts)
- El Hierro: from 6:00 p.m.
- Tenerife: north coast and metropolitan area from 6:00 p.m.
- Lanzarote and Fuerteventura: from 9:00 p.m.
Authorities advise extreme caution in coastal areas, including docks, promenades and exposed shoreline zones, due to the force and unpredictability of the swell.
Cloudier Skies and Rain Towards the End of the Day
Away from the coast, atmospheric conditions will also change as the day progresses. During the morning, skies will be cloudy in low-lying areas of the north, east and south-east, although brighter spells are expected around midday.
By the late afternoon and evening, light rainfall is forecast, mainly on the northern slopes of the higher islands.
- In Gran Canaria, cloud cover will be more persistent, particularly in the west and south.
- In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, skies are expected to clear temporarily before the arrival of night-time rain.
Temperatures and Wind: Strong Gusts in Mountain Areas

Temperatures will show little overall variation. Minimum values are expected to rise slightly, while maximum temperatures will remain largely stable.
- In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, temperatures will range from 24°C in La Gomera to 12°C in El Hierro.
- In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, values are forecast to lie between 16°C and 24°C.
Wind will be a key factor throughout the day. Moderate westerly winds are expected, with strong intervals developing in the extreme south-west during the afternoon. The most intense conditions are forecast in the central mountain areas, where very strong gusts may occur, requiring particular vigilance in high-altitude zones.
Advice to the Public
Given the combination of rough seas, rain and strong winds, authorities recommend staying informed through official updates and exercising caution, especially in coastal and mountainous areas, until conditions improve.
