AEMET confirms Sunday’s weather in the Canary Islands: stability returns with a slight temperature rise

A brighter, calmer day lies ahead, with sunshine returning and temperatures edging up across the islands.

The State Meteorological Agency, AEMET, has confirmed a clear change in the weather pattern across the Canary Islands this Sunday. After several days marked by unsettled conditions, the archipelago is set to experience a return to stability, with sunshine dominating most areas and a modest increase in temperatures.

Overall, skies will be mostly clear or only partly cloudy, allowing the sun to take centre stage for much of the day. This improvement signals a pleasant end to the week, particularly for those planning outdoor activities.

What to expect from the weather this Sunday

The most notable development will be a slight rise in temperatures, especially in inland areas and the mid-altitude zones. While coastal areas will remain comfortably mild, higher elevations are expected to feel the warming trend more clearly.

Conditions in the island capitals will be very similar. Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria are both forecast to reach maximum temperatures of around 22°C. Overnight lows will range between 15°C and 17°C, creating a generally mild and agreeable atmosphere throughout the day.

Wind and sea conditions

Winds will be light overall, blowing mainly from the north-west, although moderate gusts may develop in mountainous areas. Coastal conditions, however, deserve particular attention. AEMET has warned of a north-westerly swell, with waves potentially reaching up to four metres.

As a result, seas along the coast are expected to range from choppy to rough. While the settled weather inland may tempt people towards the sea, caution is strongly advised, especially along north- and west-facing coasts where the swell will be more pronounced.
