Residents and visitors of the Canary Islands may want to keep both a scarf and an umbrella close at hand today, as unsettled weather conditions return across much of the archipelago. According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the day will be marked by variable cloud cover, the possibility of light rainfall, strengthening trade winds and even isolated frost in higher elevations.
Cloud Cover and Light Rain in the North
The forecast indicates intervals of cloudiness across the islands, with predominantly overcast skies expected in northern and western areas. In contrast, the southeast is likely to remain partly cloudy for much of the day.
Light rainfall is possible, particularly in northeastern zones during the early hours. In Gran Canaria, showers are expected mainly in the north, especially in the morning, while the south of the island may enjoy clearer intervals. Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will also see cloudy periods, with the north of both islands more likely to experience overcast conditions.

Although rainfall is not expected to be intense, it may create damp and cooler conditions, particularly in wind-exposed areas.
Temperatures Stable, Frost Possible in High Areas
Temperatures will remain largely stable across the archipelago. Daytime highs will reach around 20°C in Tenerife, while minimum temperatures may drop to approximately 10°C on El Hierro. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, thermometers are forecast to range between 16°C and 20°C.
Despite the overall mild coastal climate, light frosts cannot be ruled out in the central mountain ranges, where overnight temperatures may dip sufficiently to create icy conditions in higher-altitude areas.
Strong Trade Winds with Occasional Very Strong Gusts

Wind will be another defining feature of the day. Trade winds are expected to blow with strong intervals, particularly affecting the southeast and extreme northwest slopes of the mountainous islands. In some exposed areas, occasional very strong gusts are possible, especially during the afternoon.
Meanwhile, gentler breezes are forecast to prevail along the southwest coasts, offering relatively calmer conditions compared to windward areas.
A Day of Contrasts Across the Archipelago
Overall, the Canary Islands will experience a mix of clouds, scattered light rain and gusty winds, with temperatures remaining moderate but cooler in elevated terrain. While no severe weather is expected, the combination of wind, dampness and potential frost in higher areas suggests a day of variable and occasionally brisk conditions across the islands.
