The weather outlook for the Canary Islands over Easter 2026 points to a dynamic beginning of the week, shaped by the combined effects of strong winds and the arrival of Saharan dust. According to the latest forecast issued by AEMET, these conditions will gradually give way to more settled and warmer weather as the week progresses.
Early week: strong gusts and advancing calima
Monday 30 March will bring the most unsettled conditions of the period. Meteorologists warn of very strong wind gusts, particularly in high-altitude areas and along exposed north-western and south-eastern slopes of the more mountainous islands.
In locations such as El Paso, wind speeds could reach up to 90 km/h during the early hours of the day. Across the archipelago, winds will generally blow from the north-east at moderate to strong intensity, with particularly notable effects in mid-altitude and elevated regions.
At the same time, the first signs of calima—airborne Saharan dust—will begin to affect the islands. The haze is expected to reach Lanzarote and Fuerteventura during the afternoon, before spreading to Gran Canaria later in the evening and overnight.
Cloud cover will remain variable, with cloudy intervals in the northern areas of the higher islands, while other regions will experience partly cloudy skies.
Tuesday: clearer skies and rising temperatures

A significant shift is expected on Tuesday 31 March, as conditions begin to stabilise. Skies will turn mostly clear across much of the archipelago, although calima will become more widespread from the early hours, particularly affecting the eastern islands and Tenerife.
One of the most notable developments will be the rise in temperatures, especially daytime highs. Inland areas will feel this increase most clearly, with temperatures reaching around 27°C in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and approximately 24°C in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Despite the improving conditions, winds will remain moderate to strong, with the possibility of very strong gusts persisting in higher areas of La Palma and El Hierro, as well as in exposed terrain.
Midweek: gradual improvement
By Wednesday 1 April, the overall situation will begin to improve further. Although calima will still be present during the first half of the day, it is expected to gradually diminish.
Skies will remain largely clear or only lightly clouded, while temperatures will stabilise or show a slight decrease in the eastern islands. Winds will ease and shift towards a more northerly to north-easterly direction, reducing their overall intensity.
Thursday: stable and calmer conditions

On Thursday 2 April, the forecast points to a much more stable pattern. Skies will be predominantly clear, with only residual haze at higher altitudes, which will continue to dissipate.
Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, maintaining mild and comfortable conditions across the islands, while winds will stay light to moderate.
Easter weekend: settled and mild weather
Looking ahead to Friday 3 April and the Easter weekend, the outlook remains favourable. The archipelago is expected to enjoy stable weather, with mostly clear skies, occasional high clouds and mild temperatures.
Winds will be light to moderate from the north-east, and no significant weather events are anticipated. Overall, after an unsettled start characterised by wind and dust, the Canary Islands are set to experience a calm and pleasant Easter period.
