AEMET warns of incoming storm system set to bring several days of rain to the Canary Islands

Rain will arrive in short, scattered bursts, mainly affecting inland and higher areas of the islands throughout the day.

The weather outlook for the Canary Islands is shifting once again, as Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET) signals the arrival of a new unstable weather system that is expected to bring several days of unsettled conditions, including rain and possible storm activity across parts of the archipelago.

A cloudy and unsettled start to the day

According to the forecast for this Saturday, skies across the Islands will begin the day under generally cloudy conditions. During the early hours and into the morning, there is a likelihood of isolated and occasional rainfall, although this probability is expected to decrease as the morning progresses.

In some areas, these early showers could be accompanied by isolated storm activity, although the risk remains relatively low.

Gradual clearing, but instability persists inland

As the day advances, conditions are expected to improve slightly, with skies becoming partly cloudy across much of the archipelago. However, this improvement will not be uniform.

Cloud cover will remain more persistent in mid-altitude areas and over higher ground, where atmospheric instability may continue to generate isolated and occasional showers, particularly during the afternoon hours. These inland and elevated zones are likely to remain the most affected by any lingering precipitation.

Temperatures edge down, especially at higher elevations

Temperatures will show only limited variation overall, although a slight downward trend is expected in daytime highs. This decrease will be more noticeable in mid-altitude regions and mountainous areas.

Minimum temperatures are expected to remain largely stable, with a slight drop possible in central highlands. Across the archipelago, values will range approximately from 22°C in Tenerife to around 12°C in El Hierro, reflecting the typical variation between coastal and elevated zones.

Light and variable winds dominate

Wind conditions will remain generally calm. Light and variable breezes are expected throughout the day, with a predominantly northerly component during the early and late hours. No significant wind-related impacts are anticipated in this phase of the forecast.

Island-by-island outlook

Gran Canaria

Skies will remain mostly cloudy in the early part of the day, with a chance of isolated showers during the early morning hours. There is also a low probability of brief storm activity.
Later in the day, conditions will become partly cloudy, although cloud cover will persist inland and in southern areas, where occasional showers cannot be ruled out.

Lanzarote and Fuerteventura

Periods of cloudiness will dominate, particularly around midday. There is a slight chance of isolated and brief showers, although precipitation is expected to be limited and sporadic.

Temperatures will remain largely stable, except in southern slopes and higher areas, where minimum temperatures may rise slightly while maximum values decrease modestly. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, temperatures are expected to range between 20°C and 17°C.

Winds will initially blow lightly from the north before becoming more variable as the day progresses.

A transition towards a wetter pattern

Although Saturday will only bring scattered and generally weak rainfall, the broader trend points towards a more prolonged period of instability. The arrival of this new system marks the beginning of a wetter phase, with further rain expected in the coming days across the Canary Islands.
