The State Meteorological Agency forecasts generally clear skies across the Canary Islands this Wednesday, with light haze easing during the afternoon and temperatures falling, especially in inland areas.
The Canary Islands are set for a more comfortable day this Wednesday after the recent heat and haze that affected much of the Archipelago. According to the latest forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), the light haze still present over the islands will gradually ease as the day progresses, while temperatures will fall moderately in several areas.
The drop will be especially noticeable in maximum temperatures, particularly in inland zones, where the heat has been more intense in recent days. Although some areas will still remain warm, the overall trend points to a gradual return to more bearable weather conditions.
Skies will be generally clear across most of the Canary Islands. However, cloudy spells are expected along the northern coasts, mainly during the early and late hours of the day. These low cloud intervals will be most noticeable in the usual areas exposed to the trade winds.
Light to moderate northerly winds
The wind will generally blow light to moderate from the north. However, it may become occasionally strong on the eastern and western slopes of the mountainous islands, where the terrain can accelerate the airflow.
In mid-altitude and high-altitude areas, the wind will tend to veer westerly. This change in direction will be especially relevant on the higher islands, where summit and mid-altitude conditions may differ from those at coastal level.
At sea, north or north-westerly winds of force 3 or 4 are expected, increasing to force 4 or 5 around Tenerife and La Gomera. Around the other islands, north and north-easterly winds of similar intensity are forecast. These conditions will bring slight to moderate swell, with a north-westerly swell of around one metre. Some showers may also occur on the east coast of Tenerife.
Lanzarote: falling temperatures and haze clearing

In Lanzarote, the day will be partly cloudy, with low cloud along the northern and western coasts during the early and late hours. Light calima will still be present at first, but it is expected to ease by the end of the day.
Minimum temperatures will show little change, while maximum temperatures will fall moderately. This decrease may be more noticeable inland, where the recent heat has been more intense. The wind will blow light to moderate from the north-west, becoming stronger in the afternoon. Strong gusts cannot be ruled out in the south-east of the island.
Fuerteventura: still warm in the east
Fuerteventura will see mostly clear skies, although low cloud is expected along the western coast during the first and last hours of the day. Light haze will continue at first but should clear by the end of the day.
Minimum temperatures will remain largely unchanged, except for some drops inland. Maximum temperatures will fall moderately and could drop more noticeably in inland areas. Even so, temperatures may still reach 30°C locally on the eastern side of the island. The wind will be light to moderate from the north-west, picking up in the afternoon. Occasional strong gusts are expected inland and in Jandía.
Gran Canaria: heat eases but may still reach 34°C locally
In Gran Canaria, skies will be lightly cloudy, with patches of low cloud along the northern coast. These clouds will be thicker during the early and late hours of the day. Light haze will still be present but is expected to clear by the end of the day. Temperatures will fall, with the most noticeable decreases expected in the northern midlands.
Despite the general decline, temperatures will still exceed 30°C across large parts of the south-facing midlands and on the peaks. Aemet does not rule out local values of 34°C in inland areas facing south-east. The wind will blow moderately from the north, occasionally strong on the western and eastern coasts. In mid-altitude areas and on the peaks, winds will generally be light and variable, predominantly from the west.
Tenerife: moderate temperature drop inland
Tenerife will have partly cloudy skies, with intervals of low cloud along the northern coast, especially during the early and late hours. Light haze will continue at first but will clear by the end of the day.
Temperatures will fall moderately, with a more noticeable drop in maximum values in inland areas. Even so, temperatures may still reach 30°C locally in some mid-altitude zones.
The wind will be light to moderate from the north, occasionally strong in the far west and north-east. In mid-altitude and high-altitude areas, winds will be light and variable, mainly from the west. On the highest peaks, however, the wind will be strong.
La Gomera: clearer skies and lower temperatures

La Gomera will see mostly clear skies, with some low cloud along the northern coast during the early and late hours. Light haze will ease during the afternoon. Temperatures will fall moderately, with the decrease in maximum temperatures locally more noticeable in north-facing mid-altitude areas.
The wind will be moderate from the north, occasionally strong on the north-western and eastern coasts. In mid-altitude areas, winds will be light and mainly westerly, becoming moderate to strong on the peaks.
La Palma: haze easing in the afternoon
La Palma will have light cloud, with intervals of low cloud on the northern and eastern coasts, especially in the early and late hours. Light haze will ease during the afternoon. Temperatures will fall moderately, with maximum temperatures dropping more noticeably in inland areas.
The wind will blow moderately from the north, becoming stronger in the south-east and north-west. In the mid-altitude areas, winds will be light and mainly from the west, increasing to moderate or strong on the peaks.
El Hierro: mostly clear with moderate temperature drop
El Hierro will be mainly clear, with intervals of low cloud along the northern coast during the early and late hours. Light haze will ease during the afternoon. Temperatures will fall moderately, especially maximum temperatures in inland areas.
The wind will be moderate from the north-east, becoming stronger in the far north-east and north-west. In mid-altitude areas, winds will be light and mainly westerly, while on the peaks they will be moderate.
Overall, Wednesday will bring a more favourable weather pattern to the Canary Islands, with the heat easing, haze gradually clearing and generally clear skies across most of the Archipelago. Although some inland areas may still see high temperatures, the forecast points to a noticeable improvement after several days of intense heat and calima.
