The State Meteorological Agency has lifted significant weather warnings for the Canary Islands this Friday, but the day will still bring cloudy skies, occasional drizzle and moderate trade winds with strong gusts in several parts of the Archipelago.
The Canary Islands will see a relatively calm but changeable weather pattern this Friday, 29 May 2026. Although the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has not issued any significant weather warnings for the day, the forecast still points to a marked contrast between the north and south of the islands.
The north of the mountainous islands will see the cloudiest conditions, with overcast skies and a high probability of occasional light drizzle, especially in mid-altitude areas. Meanwhile, the southern and south-western parts of the islands are expected to enjoy brighter conditions, with more frequent sunny spells and generally clearer skies.
Cloudy skies and drizzle in the north
According to Aemet, the north of the higher islands will remain mostly cloudy for much of the day. The cloud cover will be concentrated mainly below 900 to 1,200 metres, affecting northern slopes and mid-altitude areas exposed to the trade winds.
In these areas, occasional light drizzle is considered likely, particularly during the early hours and in places where the cloud cover remains more persistent. However, the forecast also indicates that some sunny spells may open up during the middle of the day, offering a temporary break from the grey conditions.

This typical trade-wind pattern will create a clear difference between the north-facing and south-facing areas of the islands. While the north remains more humid and cloudy, the south will generally see more open skies.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura: cloudy start, brighter later
On the eastern islands, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the day will begin with cloudy skies in the northern half and along the western coast. These clouds are expected to gradually break up as the day progresses.
As a result, conditions should tend towards partly cloudy skies or sunny intervals later in the day. In the rest of the Archipelago, the weather will be mostly partly cloudy or clear, with no major disturbances expected.
Temperatures largely unchanged
Temperatures across the Canary Islands will show little change compared with previous days. Aemet only forecasts a slight decrease in inland areas, where values may drop modestly.
Overall, the day will remain mild and relatively stable in terms of temperatures, without the intense heat seen during previous episodes. The main variation will come from cloud cover and wind exposure rather than from any major thermal change.
Moderate trade winds and strong gusts

The wind will be another key feature of Friday’s forecast. The trade winds will blow moderately from the north-east across the Canary Islands.
However, strong gusts are expected on the north-western and south-eastern slopes of the mountainous islands. These are areas where the terrain can accelerate the wind, making gusts more noticeable despite the absence of official significant warnings.
Aemet also indicates that there is a low probability of very strong gusts in the most exposed zones. Residents and visitors in these areas should therefore remain aware of changing wind conditions, particularly in open areas, on slopes and along exposed roads.
By contrast, on the south-western coasts of the more rugged islands, breezes will predominate. These areas are expected to experience calmer conditions compared with the more exposed northern and eastern slopes.
Overall, Friday’s weather in the Canary Islands will be shaped by a familiar trade-wind pattern: cloudy skies and drizzle in the north, clearer conditions in the south, largely stable temperatures and moderate north-easterly winds with strong gusts in exposed areas.
