The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has confirmed a change in the weather for the Canary Islands this Friday, 5 June 2026. After several days marked by higher temperatures, the Archipelago will experience a more unsettled pattern, with a drop in maximum temperatures and strong north-easterly winds affecting several exposed areas.
According to the forecast, the north of the islands will see the cloudiest conditions, with cloudy skies and the possibility of light rain. This will be particularly likely in the north-eastern areas, where the influence of the trade winds will be more noticeable. In the rest of the region, skies will remain partly cloudy, although occasional showers cannot be ruled out in southern and western areas.
Minimum temperatures will see little change, while maximum temperatures will fall moderately. In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, values will range from a high of around 25 degrees in Tenerife to a low of 14 degrees on El Hierro.
Gusts of up to 70 km/h in exposed areas
Wind will be one of the main features of the day. Aemet forecasts moderate north-easterly winds across the Canary Islands, with strong gusts in exposed areas.
The strongest winds are expected on the peaks, the south-eastern slopes, the far west and the south-eastern coast of the Tenerife metropolitan area. In these areas, very strong gusts of up to 70 km/h are likely during the early hours of the morning.
As the day progresses, these very strong gusts will become less likely and more occasional. Even so, wind will remain noticeable in exposed zones, especially in higher areas and on slopes where the terrain can accelerate the airflow.
Gran Canaria: cloudy north and possible drizzle
In the province of Las Palmas, the weather forecast also points to cloudier conditions in northern areas. On Gran Canaria, cloudy skies will predominate in the north, with a chance of drizzle during the first part of the day. However, the cloud cover is expected to break up gradually, allowing some sunny spells to appear during the afternoon.
In the rest of the island, skies will be partly cloudy or clear, with brighter conditions away from the north. Temperatures will remain unchanged or fall slightly at minimum levels, while maximum temperatures will drop slightly to moderately. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, temperatures will range between 19 and 21 degrees.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura: cloudy skies and low chance of drizzle
On Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, skies will be mainly cloudy at first, with a low probability of occasional drizzle. As the day develops, conditions will tend towards cloudy spells in the north and west of both islands during the afternoon.
In the remaining areas, skies will be partly cloudy, with no major weather disruptions expected. Temperatures will remain largely stable or fall slightly, continuing the general downward trend in maximum values across the Archipelago.
Strong winds in the eastern province
The wind in the province of Las Palmas will also blow moderately from the north-east. However, it will become strong in exposed areas, particularly on the south-eastern and western slopes and on the mountain peaks.
In these areas, very strong gusts of up to 70 km/h are likely during the early hours of the morning. As in the western province, the risk of such intense gusts will decrease during the rest of the day, although occasional strong gusts may still occur.
This wind pattern is typical of north-easterly trade-wind situations in the Canary Islands, where the relief of the islands can intensify the wind in certain corridors, slopes and elevated areas.
A cooler but windy Friday
Overall, Friday will bring a noticeable change in the weather across the Canary Islands. The main features will be a fall in maximum temperatures, cloudier skies in the north, a chance of light rain or drizzle in some areas and strong winds in exposed zones.
Although the heat will ease, the wind will remain a factor to watch, especially during the early hours, when gusts of up to 70 km/h are expected in several parts of the Archipelago. As the day progresses, conditions should become slightly calmer, although the trade winds will continue to shape the weather across the islands.
