The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has updated its weather forecast for this Sunday in the Canary Islands, maintaining a generally stable outlook across the archipelago. The day will be characterised by intervals of cloud cover in northern areas, plenty of sunshine elsewhere and temperatures that, although expected to fall slightly inland, could still reach around 30°C in parts of Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.
The forecast also highlights the presence of moderate north-easterly trade winds, which will strengthen in exposed areas and could produce strong or even very strong gusts in parts of the mountainous islands.
Weather forecast for Tenerife
In Tenerife, skies will remain partly cloudy in the north below 1,000 metres, especially during the early and late hours of the day. However, prolonged sunny periods are expected during the middle of the day. Elsewhere on the island, conditions will remain predominantly clear.
Temperatures will stay largely unchanged along the coast, while inland and mid-altitude areas may experience a slight decrease. The north-easterly wind will be moderate overall but will strengthen considerably in the far north-west, the south-east and parts of the metropolitan area, where strong gusts are expected.
La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro
La Palma will begin the day with low cloud affecting the north and north-east, while sunshine will dominate the rest of the island. Coastal temperatures will remain stable, although maximum temperatures are expected to fall slightly inland. Wind conditions will become more intense in low-lying areas of the north-west and south-east.
In La Gomera, cloud cover will affect northern areas during the morning and evening, giving way to clearer skies during the central hours of the day. Temperatures will drop noticeably in inland areas, while coastal zones will continue to enjoy mild and stable conditions. Strong and occasionally very strong gusts are possible in the north-west and eastern parts of the island.
El Hierro will also see cloudy intervals in the north during the first and last hours of the day, with clearer skies expected later on. Temperatures will remain stable along the coast but will decrease slightly inland. Winds from the north-east will strengthen in western and south-eastern areas of the island.
Gran Canaria could reach 30°C
Gran Canaria will experience cloudy skies in the north during the morning, although cloud cover is expected to retreat as the day progresses, remaining mainly along the coastline.
The warmest temperatures in the archipelago are forecast in the south-eastern midlands of the island, where thermometers could approach 30°C. In contrast, temperatures are expected to fall across much of the interior. The north-easterly wind will strengthen during the afternoon, bringing very strong gusts to western and south-eastern slopes.
Stable conditions in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
Lanzarote is expected to see cloudy conditions in northern and western areas, while the remainder of the island will enjoy largely clear skies. Temperatures will remain stable throughout the day, and winds will intensify during the afternoon.
In Fuerteventura, the day will begin with cloudy intervals along parts of the coastline before skies gradually clear. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly and may also reach 30°C in parts of the south-east. Wind conditions will become stronger during the afternoon, particularly in Jandía and along the south-western coast.
Overall, Sunday will bring typical summer weather to the Canary Islands, with sunshine dominating much of the archipelago, stable coastal temperatures and periods of strong trade winds, particularly in exposed areas.
