The weather in the Canary Islands will undergo a gradual change this Wednesday, 24 June 2026, with cloudier conditions during the morning giving way to brighter spells as the day progresses. According to the forecast issued by the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), skies will be partly cloudy in the mountainous areas and cloudy in other parts of the archipelago during the early hours, with the possibility of light rain in some northern areas.
The main change is expected from midday onwards, when the cloud cover will begin to break up and sunny spells will become more frequent across much of the islands.
Temperatures will show little variation compared with previous days. The highest values are expected in Tenerife, where thermometers may reach 28°C, while the lowest temperatures will be recorded on El Hierro, with minimums of around 17°C.
Cloud and possible light rain before midday
The first half of the day will be marked by cloudier skies, especially in the north of the islands and in areas exposed to the trade winds. Light rain is not ruled out, although any precipitation is expected to be weak and localised.
In mountain areas, skies will generally remain partly cloudy. Elsewhere, cloud cover will be more persistent during the morning, before gradually clearing as the day advances.
Aemet expects the improvement in conditions to become more noticeable from midday, when partly cloudy or clear skies will begin to predominate in many areas.
Light winds in most areas, stronger in the mountains
The wind will generally be light and will blow from the north to the north-east. However, conditions will be different in the central mountain ranges, where the wind will be stronger and will blow from the south-west.
This contrast means that while many coastal and low-lying areas will experience relatively calm conditions, exposed higher-altitude areas may see stronger winds during the day.
Forecast for the province of Las Palmas
In the province of Las Palmas, the forecast for Wednesday points to cloudy skies in the north of Gran Canaria, with intervals of cloud in the rest of the island. From midday onwards, conditions are expected to become partly cloudy or clear.
During the first half of the day, there will be a low probability of light rain in the north of Gran Canaria. Any rainfall, however, is expected to be weak and limited.
In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, cloudy intervals are forecast during the early hours. These will also tend to clear from midday onwards, giving way to partly cloudy skies for the second half of the day.
Temperatures in the province will remain largely unchanged or may fall slightly. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, values are expected to range between 21°C and 25°C.
Occasional strong gusts in exposed areas
As for the wind in the eastern province, it will blow from the north-east with light to moderate intensity. However, Aemet does not rule out occasional strong gusts on the western and south-eastern slopes.
On the peaks of Gran Canaria, the wind will be moderate from the west, with occasional strong gusts also possible. These gusts may be more noticeable in exposed areas and higher ground.
Overall, the day will begin with cloudier conditions and a slight chance of light rain in some northern areas, before the weather improves from midday onwards with clearer skies and more sunshine across the Canary Islands.
