Arona has entered the ranking of the Spanish municipalities with the highest number of holiday homes advertised on digital platforms, according to the latest experimental statistics published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The municipality, located in the south of Tenerife, ranks ninth in Spain, with 3,976 holiday homes listed.
The Canary Islands as a whole remain one of the regions with the greatest presence of holiday accommodation on digital platforms. The archipelago is the fourth autonomous community in Spain with the highest number of advertised holiday homes, despite registering a fall of 2,330 listings over the course of a year.
The data correspond to the month of May and are compared with the same month in 2025. These figures form part of the INE’s experimental statistics, which are compiled twice a year to track the evolution of holiday homes advertised online.
Las Palmas and Santa Cruz de Tenerife among the leading provinces
At provincial level, the Canary Islands continue to stand out in the national ranking. The province of Las Palmas ranks third in Spain for the number of holiday homes, with 26,998 properties advertised on digital platforms.
The province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife also appears among the leading areas, ranking fifth nationally with 21,358 holiday homes.
This strong presence reflects the continued weight of tourist accommodation in the Canary Islands, where holiday lets remain a central issue in the debate over access to housing, tourism pressure and the use of residential property.
La Oliva and Arona in the national top 10
Two Canarian municipalities appear among the ten Spanish municipalities with the highest number of holiday homes.
La Oliva, in Fuerteventura, ranks eighth with 3,979 properties advertised as holiday accommodation. Very close behind is Arona, in Tenerife, which occupies ninth place with 3,976 listings.
The figures show that both municipalities remain major hotspots for holiday accommodation, particularly in coastal and tourist areas where demand from visitors continues to be high.
Holiday homes fall across Spain compared with last year
Across Spain, the number of holiday homes advertised on digital platforms fell significantly in May. According to the INE figures, there were 341,001 holiday homes listed nationwide, representing a year-on-year decline of 10.7%.
This is the second-largest annual fall recorded in the historical series. In absolute terms, Spain had 40,836 fewer holiday homes advertised than in May of the previous year.
The decline suggests a notable adjustment in the number of properties being offered as holiday accommodation on digital platforms, although the sector remains highly significant in many tourist regions.
Listings rise compared with November 2025
Despite the year-on-year decrease, the latest figures also show a short-term increase. Compared with the previous INE statistic, corresponding to November 2025, the number of holiday flats advertised in Spain rose by 3.4% in May.
This increase is equivalent to 11,237 additional properties listed on digital platforms compared with the previous measurement.
The data therefore point to a mixed picture: fewer holiday homes than a year ago, but more listings than at the end of 2025. In the Canary Islands, the figures continue to confirm the importance of holiday accommodation in the regional housing and tourism debate, with Arona and La Oliva among the municipalities most affected by this phenomenon.
