The Canary Islands will experience a Thursday marked by cloudy spells in the north of several islands, slightly lower temperatures and strong gusts of wind, according to the latest forecast from the State Meteorological Agency, Aemet.
For this Thursday, 2 July 2026, Aemet expects intervals of cloud cover in northern areas, especially during the early morning and later in the day. Although temperatures are expected to fall slightly in many places, they will still remain high in parts of the archipelago, particularly in the southern midlands, where maximum values may reach 32°C.
The wind will be one of the main features of the day. Strong gusts are expected across several parts of the Canary Islands, and they may become very intense on exposed slopes facing south, east and west.
Weather in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife
In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which includes Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro, the day will bring partly cloudy skies with cloudier intervals during the early hours and again in the afternoon.
Temperatures will fall slightly compared with previous days, with the most noticeable decreases expected in the central mountain peaks. However, the heat will not disappear completely. In some lower-lying areas of the southern slopes of the metropolitan area, temperatures may still exceed 30°C.
According to Aemet’s official data, maximum temperatures in the province will range from around 30°C in Tenerife to lower values in the western islands. El Hierro will record some of the coolest temperatures, with minimum values of around 16°C.
The wind will remain moderate to strong in several areas, with gusts becoming particularly noticeable on exposed slopes and in areas where the terrain accelerates the airflow.
Gran Canaria: cloudy in the north, warmer in the south
In the province of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria will see a clear contrast between the north and the rest of the island.
The north of Gran Canaria will remain cloudy below 900 metres, particularly during the early hours of the day. Aemet does not rule out a low probability of light drizzle in these areas, although any rainfall is expected to be weak and occasional.
In the rest of the island, clearer skies will prevail. Maximum temperatures will fall moderately compared with previous days, but the heat will continue in several inland areas. Aemet warns that temperatures may still reach between 30°C and 32°C in the mid-altitude zones of the south, east and west of Gran Canaria.
In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, conditions will be milder thanks to the influence of the trade winds. Temperatures in the capital are expected to range between a minimum of 20°C and a maximum of 26°C.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura: clouds clearing during the day
In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, cloudy intervals are expected at the start of the day, although cloud cover will tend to clear in the south and east during the middle hours.
A moderate northerly wind will blow across both islands. However, strong gusts are expected in exposed areas, particularly at the eastern and western extremes of the islands.
Aemet also warns that very strong gusts cannot be ruled out during the early hours and at the beginning of the morning, especially in areas more exposed to the northerly wind.
A day of lower temperatures but persistent wind
Overall, the weather in the Canary Islands this Thursday will be slightly more moderate in terms of temperatures, but the wind will remain a key factor. The highest values will still be recorded in southern and mid-altitude areas, while northern zones will see more cloud cover and a small chance of light drizzle.
Aemet recommends paying attention to wind conditions, especially in exposed areas, on roads affected by crosswinds and in zones where gusts may become very strong.
