The weather in the Canary Islands will change this Saturday, with more cloud, light rainfall and a noticeable drop in temperatures in several inland areas. According to the State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, the archipelago will experience a more unstable weather pattern, particularly during the morning in the north of the islands and in parts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
The forecast points to overcast skies in several areas, especially on the northern slopes of the more mountainous islands, where light rain is expected during the first half of the day. The eastern islands may also see weak rainfall, particularly in the morning.
As the day progresses, cloud cover will increase in the mid-altitude areas facing south and south-east. In these areas, Aemet does not rule out occasional showers during the afternoon, although rainfall is expected to remain generally light and scattered.
Despite the change in weather, some areas will still record relatively high temperatures. The inland areas and the south of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, as well as the southern mid-altitude areas of Gran Canaria, could still reach maximum temperatures of around 30°C.
Minimum temperatures will remain largely unchanged across most of the Canary Islands, while maximum temperatures will fall most noticeably in inland areas, especially in the western islands. Winds will blow from the north at light to moderate intensity and will tend to shift to a westerly component on the mountain peaks throughout the day.
Weather forecast for the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Tenerife
In the north of Tenerife, cloudy skies will prevail, with light rain most likely during the first half of the day. In the south and other areas of the island, clouds will increase during the afternoon, with a chance of occasional showers in the south-east.
The highest peaks will remain mostly clear. Temperatures will fall moderately to significantly in inland areas. Winds will blow from the north, with the strongest gusts expected in the early hours around the Anaga massif. In the central peaks, winds will come from the west. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, temperatures will range between a minimum of 22°C and a maximum of 27°C.
La Palma
La Palma will see cloudy skies with light rain in the morning in the north and west of the island. Conditions are expected to improve from midday onwards. In the east and south, cloud cover will develop during the afternoon, with a chance of isolated showers.
Maximum temperatures will fall moderately to significantly in inland areas. Winds will be light to moderate from the north, shifting to a westerly component on the peaks. In Santa Cruz de La Palma, temperatures will range between 20°C and 23°C.
La Gomera
In La Gomera, overcast skies and light morning showers are expected on the northern slopes. Elsewhere on the island, skies will be partly cloudy, with developing cloud cover during the afternoon in inland and southern areas.
Brief showers cannot be ruled out in these areas. Temperatures will remain stable along the coast, while a slight drop is expected on the mountain peaks. Winds will blow from the north, with stronger gusts in the early hours on the eastern and western ends of the island. In San Sebastián de La Gomera, temperatures will range between 22°C and 26°C.
El Hierro
In El Hierro, the north of the island will see cloudy skies and light rain during the early hours of the day, with conditions tending to clear by midday. On the eastern and southern slopes, clouds will develop during the afternoon, although the probability of rain will remain low.
Temperatures will fall in the mid-altitude areas and on the peaks. Winds will blow from the north, shifting to a north-westerly direction in higher areas. In Valverde, temperatures will range between 16°C and 21°C.
Weather forecast for the province of Las Palmas
Gran Canaria
In Gran Canaria, the north of the island will begin the day with overcast skies and light rain, mainly until midday. Cloud cover is expected to decrease later in the day.
In the south and inland areas, skies will remain mostly clear during the morning, although developing cloud cover in the afternoon could bring occasional rain to the south and south-east. Maximum temperatures will fall slightly in inland areas, but values may still approach 30°C in the southern and western mid-altitude areas.
Winds will blow from the north and may be stronger on the eastern and western flanks of the island. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, temperatures will range between 21°C and 25°C.
Lanzarote
Lanzarote will see partly cloudy skies, with more cloud cover during the morning in the north and west of the island. During the afternoon, cloud will become more noticeable in the east.
There is a low probability of light rain in both areas. Maximum temperatures will rise slightly inland, where they may locally reach 30°C. Winds will be light to moderate from the north. In Arrecife, temperatures will range between 21°C and 29°C.
Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura will see similar conditions to Lanzarote, with cloudier skies in the north and west during the morning and more cloud developing towards the east in the afternoon.
There is also a low probability of light rain. Maximum temperatures will rise slightly inland and in the south, where they could reach 30°C at times. Winds will remain light to moderate from the north. In Puerto del Rosario, temperatures will range between 21°C and 27°C.
Overall, Saturday will bring a clear change in the weather across the Canary Islands, with more cloud, light rain in several areas and falling temperatures inland. However, the south and inland areas of the eastern islands, as well as parts of southern Gran Canaria, will still experience warm conditions, with maximum temperatures close to 30°C.
