The Canary Islands are set for a Wednesday marked by generally stable weather, a moderate rise in temperatures in inland areas and trade wind gusts that could become very strong at times. According to the forecast from the State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, skies will remain mostly clear on the southern side of the archipelago, while the northern areas of the islands will see abundant low-level cloud during the early hours of the day.
Temperatures will rise in mid-altitude areas and on the summits of the higher islands, as well as in inland parts of Fuerteventura. The highest values are expected in the Tejeda basin and in the southern and western areas of Gran Canaria, as well as in the south of Fuerteventura, where maximum temperatures may reach 32°C.
In Tenerife, temperatures are expected to remain around 30°C in the southern mid-altitude areas and in the lower-lying parts of the metropolitan area.
Where the wind will be strongest and where drizzle may fall
The most notable feature of the day will be the north-easterly trade wind. It will generally blow at moderate strength, but is expected to intensify during the second half of the day, especially on the south-eastern and north-western extremes of the islands.
Aemet does not rule out very strong gusts in parts of Gran Canaria, the Jandía peninsula in Fuerteventura, the far south-east of Tenerife, La Gomera and the channels between the islands.
On the northern slopes of the islands with the highest relief, below around 1,000 metres, morning cloud cover may bring a low probability of scattered light drizzle in mid-altitude areas. These cloudy skies are expected to clear from midday onwards, giving way to intervals of cloud. In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, skies will be mainly clear, although some high cloud may be present during the day.
At sea, the official forecast warns of north or north-easterly winds of force 4 or 5, strengthening to force 6 further offshore. The swell is expected to increase, with strong swell affecting large parts of the archipelago, accompanied by a northerly swell with waves between one and two metres high.

In Tenerife, skies will be cloudy in the north below 1,200 metres, with a low chance of drizzle in mid-altitude areas during the early hours. The cloud is expected to clear during the afternoon. Elsewhere, skies will be lightly cloudy or mostly clear. Maximum temperatures will rise in mid-altitude areas, reaching around 30°C in the south and in the lower-lying parts of the metropolitan area.
Winds will blow from the north-east at moderate strength, with strong gusts in the far south-east and west, as well as in the south of the metropolitan area. Very strong gusts cannot be ruled out during the afternoon. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, temperatures will range from 24°C to 30°C.
In Gran Canaria, skies will be overcast in the north below 900 metres, with scattered drizzle likely in the early hours in mid-altitude areas. The cloud will tend to clear around midday. The south and the summits will remain mostly clear. Temperatures will rise in mid-altitude areas, with values of 30°C to 32°C expected on the southern, eastern and western slopes and in the Tejeda basin. The north-easterly wind will be moderate overall, but strong or very strong gusts are expected in the south-eastern and western extremes during the second half of the day. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, temperatures will range between 23°C and 26°C.
In Lanzarote, the north of the island will be partly cloudy during the early hours, clearing to mostly clear skies by midday. Elsewhere, skies will remain clear, with some medium and high cloud. Maximum temperatures may reach 30°C on the south-eastern slopes. The north-easterly wind will bring strong gusts to southern inland areas during the afternoon. In Arrecife, temperatures will range from 22°C to 29°C.
In Fuerteventura, low cloud is expected along the eastern and western coasts at the beginning of the day, later clearing to fine skies. Medium and high cloud may also be present. Temperatures may reach 32°C in the southern inland areas and along the south-eastern coast. The north-easterly wind will be moderate, although it may become occasionally strong south of Jandía, where very strong gusts are possible towards the end of the day. In Puerto del Rosario, temperatures will range between 22°C and 28°C.
In La Gomera, heavy cloud cover is expected in the northern strip below 1,100 metres, clearing around midday. The south of the island and higher-altitude areas will remain mostly clear. Temperatures will remain stable overall, with slight rises in the southern mid-altitude areas. The north-easterly wind will blow at moderate strength but will intensify on the eastern and western slopes, where very strong gusts may occur later in the day. In San Sebastián de La Gomera, temperatures will range from 24°C to 28°C.
In La Palma, skies will be cloudy in the north and east below 1,200 metres, with a chance of light drizzle in mid-altitude areas around dawn. The cloud will give way to widespread sunny spells during the afternoon. The western slopes will see light cloud. Maximum temperatures will rise slightly at the summits. By the end of the day, north-easterly winds will become strong in the south-eastern and north-western extremes. In Santa Cruz de La Palma, temperatures will range from 22°C to 27°C.
In El Hierro, cloudy skies are expected on the northern slopes below 1,000 metres, especially during the early and late hours of the day. The rest of the island will see light cloud. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged. The north-easterly wind will blow at moderate strength, with strong gusts on the eastern and western slopes. In Valverde, temperatures will range between 17°C and 21°C.
