The State Meteorological Agency Aemet forecasts a further rise in temperatures in parts of the Canary Islands this Wednesday, 19 August, with maximum values expected to exceed 30°C in some areas.
The day will be marked by a combination of cloudy spells and clear skies, depending on the island, altitude and exposure. No significant adverse weather events are expected across the archipelago, although wind will be more noticeable in certain areas, especially on the central peaks of Tenerife.
According to Aemet, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will see cloudy intervals during the day, while the north of the more mountainous islands will remain predominantly cloudy. In the rest of the archipelago, skies will be partly cloudy or mostly clear.
Temperatures are expected to rise slightly in some areas, although the forecast still points to generally moderate conditions compared with the intense heat recorded in recent weeks.
In the two Canarian capitals, Aemet forecasts a maximum of 31°C in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where the minimum will be around 22°C. In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, temperatures are expected to range between 24°C and 27°C.
Strong winds on Tenerife’s peaks
Wind will also be a notable feature of Wednesday’s forecast, although Aemet does not expect it to lead to significant weather alerts for the Canary Islands.
In the eastern province, light to moderate northerly winds are expected. In the western islands, winds will mainly blow from the north-east with similar intensity.
The main exception will be the central peaks of Tenerife, where strong south-westerly winds are forecast. These winds are expected to shift towards the west as the day progresses.
As a result, weather conditions will vary considerably depending on location. Northern areas of the higher islands will see more cloud cover, while southern and other exposed slopes are likely to enjoy clearer skies.
Overall, Wednesday will bring a relatively stable weather pattern to the Canary Islands, with temperatures once again rising above 30°C in some areas, more cloud in the north of the mountainous islands and stronger winds at high altitude in Tenerife.
