The State Meteorological Agency Aemet forecasts a change in the weather in the Canary Islands this Friday, 21 August, with light rain in some areas, cloudy spells and moderate winds from the north and north-east.
No significant adverse weather events are expected across the archipelago. However, the day will be marked by more cloud cover in several areas, occasional showers and wind that could become strong at certain points.
Temperatures will remain largely unchanged overall, although maximum values may fall slightly in the mid-altitude areas of the more mountainous islands.
In the provincial capitals, Aemet forecasts temperatures of between 24°C and 27°C in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, values are expected to range from 24°C to 31°C.
Where rain is expected this Friday
In Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, cloudy spells are expected during the first half of the day and again in the late afternoon. Aemet indicates a low probability of light and occasional rain, although wide clear spells are expected to develop during the afternoon.
The situation will be different in the north of the higher islands, where cloudy skies are expected to predominate. In these areas, light and occasional rain may occur, although some clear spells are also likely during the afternoon.
In the rest of the archipelago, skies will generally be partly cloudy. However, there may be periods of cloud in inland areas of Tenerife and La Palma.
Any rainfall forecast for Friday is expected to be light and occasional, concentrated mainly on northern slopes and at certain times of the day.
Strong winds in several areas
Wind will be one of the main features of the day. It will blow moderately from the north and north-east, but stronger gusts are expected in several parts of the islands.
According to Aemet, these gusts may affect inland areas of Lanzarote, the south of Jandía in Fuerteventura, and the south-eastern and north-western slopes of the more mountainous islands. In these latter areas, locally very strong gusts are also possible, according to the official forecast.
The combination of cloud, light rain and stronger winds will bring more variable conditions than in previous days, although the overall weather pattern will remain relatively stable.
Maximum temperatures may fall slightly in some mid-altitude areas, while coastal areas and the provincial capitals will continue to see warm conditions, especially in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where highs may still reach 31°C.
