The State Meteorological Agency Aemet forecasts a generally stable day in the Canary Islands this Wednesday, 26 August, although some areas will see more cloud cover and temperatures could once again reach 30°C locally.
In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, cloudy spells are expected in the north of the island. These will be more persistent during the first half of the day and again in the late afternoon.
In the rest of Tenerife, skies will generally be lightly cloudy, although cloudy intervals are expected in the south and west during the early hours of the morning.
Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, although minimum values may fall slightly. Maximum temperatures could reach 30°C in areas along Tenerife’s southern coast and in the south-east of the metropolitan area.
Wind on Tenerife’s peaks
The wind will generally blow light to moderate from the north-east. However, conditions will be different in the high-altitude areas.
On the peaks, Aemet expects moderate to strong westerly winds during the early hours, with the possibility of very strong gusts at those times on the higher slopes of Mount Teide.
During the day, the wind will ease and become light to moderate from the west. Breezes are also expected along the south-western coast.
Gran Canaria
In Gran Canaria, skies will be mostly clear or partly cloudy for much of the day.
The main exception will be the north of the island, where cloudy spells are expected during the first half of the day and again in the late afternoon. Cloudy intervals may also affect the south of the island during the early hours.
Temperatures will remain largely unchanged. Locally, values of around 30°C cannot be ruled out in low-lying areas of the south and west.
In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Aemet forecasts temperatures between a minimum of 23°C and a maximum of 27°C.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will also see mostly clear or partly cloudy skies. However, cloudy spells are expected during the early and late hours of the day, especially in the northern half of the islands.
Temperatures will show little change compared with previous days.
Moderate north-easterly winds
Wind will remain one of the main features of the forecast in several areas of the archipelago.
A moderate north-easterly wind is expected, with occasional strong gusts along the south-eastern and far-western coasts of Gran Canaria.
On the peaks, the wind will be light to moderate from the west, veering north during the day. Breezes are expected along the south-western coasts.
Overall, Wednesday will bring a mix of clear skies, cloudy spells and warm temperatures to the Canary Islands. The warmest areas may again approach 30°C, while the most notable wind conditions will be concentrated on the peaks and exposed coastal zones.
