Temperatures will rise again in the Canary Islands this Tuesday, 1 September, with highs of up to 34°C expected in parts of Gran Canaria and around 30°C in Tenerife, according to the forecast from the State Meteorological Agency Aemet.
The day will also be marked by a north-easterly wind, which is expected to strengthen during the afternoon and could bring very strong gusts to several areas of the archipelago.
The forecast comes after recent warnings of a new rise in temperatures at the start of September, with warmer air affecting the islands and making conditions hotter in the most exposed southern and inland areas.
Tenerife to reach 30°C in the south
In Tenerife, temperatures are expected to reach 30°C in low-lying areas of the south and on the southern slopes of the metropolitan area.
In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Aemet forecasts a minimum temperature of 23°C and a maximum of 30°C. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged across much of the island, although they may rise slightly in mid-altitude areas.
Skies will be mostly clear, although some cloud may affect northern areas during parts of the day.
The wind will blow moderately from the north-east, with strong gusts possible at the south-eastern and north-western extremes of the island. As the day progresses, the wind is expected to strengthen, and very strong gusts cannot be ruled out. Breezes will prevail along the south-western coasts.
Gran Canaria could reach 34°C
The highest temperatures of the day are expected in Gran Canaria. Aemet forecasts values of between 30°C and 32°C in the south-east and in western mid-altitude areas. However, temperatures could locally reach 34°C in mid-altitude and low-lying areas of the south-east.
In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, temperatures are expected to range between a minimum of 23°C and a maximum of 28°C. Skies will remain mostly clear across the island, although intervals of low cloud are expected in the north during the early hours of the day.
The wind will be moderate from the north-east and strong on the south-eastern and north-western slopes. During the second half of the day, occasional very strong gusts are possible. Breezes are expected along the southern coasts.
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura
In Lanzarote, skies will be mainly clear, with some periods of medium and high cloud. Aemet also points to a low probability of light and occasional rainfall.
Temperatures will remain largely unchanged and may reach 30°C in the south-east of the island. Fuerteventura will experience similar conditions, with mostly clear skies and stable temperatures in many areas.
However, maximum temperatures may rise slightly in the east and could reach between 30°C and 32°C in the south-east. The wind will blow moderately from the north-east, occasionally becoming strong south of Jandía, with the possibility of very strong gusts towards the end of the day.
La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro
On La Gomera, cloud cover will be more extensive in the north during the early hours, before tending to ease as the day progresses.
Maximum temperatures may rise in mid-altitude areas. The wind will be strong on the eastern and north-western slopes, where very strong gusts could be recorded from mid-afternoon onwards.
La Palma will begin the day with cloudy skies in the north and east. Some light drizzle is possible in the north-east during the early hours, after which cloudy spells are expected to predominate.
The wind will strengthen in El Paso and in the south-eastern and north-western extremes of the island. On El Hierro, patchy cloud will be concentrated in the north and will tend to clear during the day. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged.
The wind will be strong in the south-east and far west, with the possibility of very strong gusts from mid-afternoon onwards.
Yellow warning at sea
The marine forecast also points to an increase in wind strength overnight. Aemet has issued yellow warnings for north-easterly winds of between 50 and 61 km/h, equivalent to force 7, in maritime areas to the east, south and west of Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
The episode is expected to begin at 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday and will particularly affect the southern part of the channel between Tenerife and Gran Canaria, as well as the south-east of Gran Canaria.
In waters around the Canary Islands, north or north-easterly winds of force 4 to 6 are forecast, with strong swells and wave heights of between one and two metres.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife: 23–30°C.
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: 23–28°C.
Arrecife: 22–27°C.
Puerto del Rosario: 21–29°C.
San Sebastián de La Gomera: 24–28°C.
Santa Cruz de La Palma: 21–27°C.
Valverde: 18–22°C.
Overall, Tuesday will bring a new rise in temperatures to the Canary Islands, with Gran Canaria expected to record the highest values and stronger north-easterly winds becoming one of the main features of the day.
