The first weekend of October in the Canary Islands will be marked by high-altitude calima and north-easterly winds, which may blow strongly at times on the most exposed slopes. According to the latest forecast from the State Meteorological Agency Aemet, no significant adverse weather events are expected on Saturday, and no weather warnings have been issued for Sunday.
The forecast for 3 and 4 October points to a generally stable weekend, although suspended dust at high altitude and moderate winds will shape the weather across several islands. Temperatures will show little change overall. Maximum temperatures may rise slightly in inland areas, while coastal areas will remain virtually unchanged.
The calima will mainly affect the eastern islands, with dust suspended at high altitude on both Saturday and Sunday. Aemet indicates that the haze will be especially noticeable in this part of the archipelago during the second half of the weekend.
Weather in the Canary Islands on Saturday
For Saturday, Aemet forecasts cloudy spells in the north of the more mountainous islands. However, these clouds will tend to give way to extensive clear spells during the middle of the day.

In the rest of the Canary Islands, skies will be mostly clear or only slightly cloudy. One of the main features of the day will be the high-altitude haze, which will mainly affect the eastern islands.
Minimum temperatures will see little change. Maximum temperatures will also remain largely stable along the coasts, although they may rise slightly in inland areas. The wind will blow from the north-east at moderate strength along the coasts, with strong gusts possible on exposed slopes.
In the mid-altitude areas, highlands and the interior of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, easterly or south-easterly winds will prevail. In the two Canary Islands capitals, Aemet forecasts temperatures of between 24°C and 27°C in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and between 23°C and 28°C in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Sunday with calima and few changes
The weather pattern will remain very similar on Sunday, 4 October. Cloudy spells are again expected in the north of the mountainous islands, although these will tend to clear during the middle of the day, leaving long sunny intervals.

The rest of the archipelago will remain mostly clear or only lightly cloudy. The high-altitude haze will persist, particularly over the eastern islands, where the calima is expected to be more noticeable.
Temperatures will remain largely unchanged or rise slightly in some areas. Along the coasts, a moderate north-easterly wind will continue, again with strong gusts possible on exposed slopes.
In mid-altitude and high-altitude areas, as well as in the interior of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the wind will be light to moderate from the east or south-east. For Sunday, forecast temperatures in the two capital cities are between 23°C and 27°C in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and between 24°C and 28°C in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
No warnings in place
Aemet maintains that there are no weather warnings in place for Sunday, 4 October, according to the information released on Friday. No warning conditions are expected at sea on Saturday either.
Overall, the first weekend of October will bring mostly stable weather to the Canary Islands, with the main features being high-altitude calima over the eastern islands, moderate north-easterly winds and strong gusts on exposed slopes, while temperatures remain largely unchanged.
