Binter commemorated its 35th anniversary by setting a new daily passenger record, anticipating over 20,500 passengers on Sunday, March 31, a significant leap from its previous record of 19,411 passengers in April 2023.
Since its inception in 1989, the airline has transported over 83 million passengers across more than 1,648,000 flights. In 2023, the airline broke its annual passenger record with nearly 4.94 million passengers across 82,877 flights, showcasing its expansion from a regional carrier to a major airline connecting the Canary Islands with 33 international destinations.
The company’s journey from its first full year in 1990, with 564,278 passengers and 15,538 flights, underscores its remarkable growth. Santiago Guerra, Binter’s general coordinator, celebrates the company’s evolution from regional service to a leading provider connecting the Canary Islands to over thirty national and international destinations.
Binter’s venture into the Canary Islands-Madrid corridor in 2023 exemplifies its commitment to offering high-quality, differentiated services, departing from the typical ‘low cost’ model. Maintaining a 98% punctuality rate since February, the airline demonstrates its dedication to excellence.
Employing over 2,500 people, Binter has grown into a conglomerate of 17 specialized companies, significantly contributing to the socio-economic development of the Canary Islands. Internationally, it began expanding in 2005 with routes to Madeira, Marrakech, and El Aaiún, and furthered its reach within Spain in 2018. Celebrated multiple times by the European Regional Airlines Association and recognized by the OCU as Spain’s best airline in 2023, Binter also won the ‘Travellers Choice Awards 2020’ by TripAdvisor.
Committed to social contributions, Binter supports over 60 projects across the Canary Islands in key areas such as the environment, health, culture, education, and sports, promoting improvement within the archipelago and its other destinations.
